Did you know our furry friends can get arthritis too? Yep, dogs and cats can feel those creaky, achy joints just like we do.

Arthritis happens when the cartilage cushion in a joint wears down, making movement painful. And it’s not just a “senior pet” thing; instability from hip dysplasia, luxating patellas, injuries, illness, or metabolic issues can start the process early.

In honor of Memorial Day Weekend, our clinic will be closed Saturday, May 23rd and Monday, May 25th. This weekend, we pause to remember the brave men and women who gave everything in service to our country. Their sacrifice allows us the freedoms we cherish every day.

Boarding pick‑ups will still be available 8–8:30 AM and 8–8:30 PM on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

🌿 May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month 🌿
Lyme disease is transmitted to dogs through the bite of an infected deer tick (black‑legged tick). Once in the bloodstream, the organism can travel throughout the body and often settles in the joints or kidneys.

🕒 Symptoms usually appear 2–5 months after infection, when the disease may already be widespread. Signs can include:
• Generalized pain
• Lack of appetite
• High fever
• Swollen joints
• Sudden limping that may shift from leg to leg
• Dogs may appear to “walk on eggshells”

Because other illnesses can look similar, veterinarians use blood tests—including quick in‑clinic antibody tests—to confirm exposure. Additional blood and urine testing helps assess kidney health and check for protein loss.

🛡️ Prevention is the best protection.
Reduce your dog’s exposure to ticks and keep them on a year‑round preventative such as:

🌟 April 22 is Pet CPR Day 🌟
Emergencies are frightening, and we hope you never find yourself in a situation where CPR is needed. But being prepared can make all the difference when every second counts.

Below are the basic steps of Pet CPR to help guide you in an emergency until you can reach a veterinary hospital:

🐾 1. Check for breathing and a heartbeat
Look for chest movement and feel for a heartbeat. If neither is present, begin CPR immediately.

🐾 2. Start chest compressions
Hand placement varies by pet size (see diagram).
Press hard and fast at 100–120 compressions per minute, compressing 1/3 to 1/2 the width of the chest. Allow full recoil between compressions.

🐾 3. Give rescue breaths
Gently close the pet’s mouth, extend the neck to open the airway, and cover the nose with your mouth. Exhale until you see the chest rise.

🐾 4. Continue CPR in cycles
Perform 30 chest compressions followed by 2 rescue breaths. Repeat continuously until the pet begins breathing on their own.

🐾 5. Recheck every 2 minutes
Look for breathing and a heartbeat. If there is no improvement, continue CPR while transporting your pet to the nearest veterinary hospital.
