🐕 STOP REPEATING YOURSELF.

“Come.”

“Come.”

“COME!”

Sound familiar?

Here's the problem: every time you repeat a command your dog ignores, you may be teaching them that the first command doesn't really matter.

Your dog hears:

➡️ “Come.”
➡️ Nothing happens.
➡️ “Come.”
➡️ Still nothing.
➡️ “COME!”
➡️ Okay… NOW I should probably listen.

Over time, the dog learns to wait for the escalation.

Try this instead:

1️⃣ Say it once.

Give your dog a clear, calm command.

2️⃣ Give them a moment.

Don't immediately start repeating yourself.

3️⃣ Follow through.

If you've given a command, have a clear and consistent way of helping your dog complete it.

4️⃣ Release the pressure.

When your dog gets it right, allow them to understand that the pressure is gone and the correct choice worked.

That's the difference between talking at your dog and actually communicating with them.

🐕 YOUR DOG IS WATCHING YOU.

And I don’t mean when you’re holding a treat.

Your dog is constantly reading your state of mind, body language, timing, movement, and consistency.

Here’s a simple exercise you can try TODAY:

The 10-Second Leadership Test

Take your dog somewhere with a few distractions.

Don’t say anything.

Don’t pull the leash.

Don’t offer a treat.

Just stand there calmly and watch your dog.

Notice:

• Are they scanning everything around them?
• Are they pulling toward distractions?
• Are they checking in with you?
• Is their body relaxed or tense?
• Are YOU tense on the leash?

Now here's the important part:

Don't try to fix the dog immediately. Fix your own state first.

Take a breath.
Relax your shoulders.
Plant your feet.
Become intentional with your movement.

Then move forward with purpose.

Your dog doesn't just respond to what you SAY.

They respond to what you communicate.
