🌞🐾 **Beat the Heat: Protect Your Pets from Heat Stroke!** 🐾🌞

As temperatures rise, so does the risk of **heat stroke** in our furry family members. Unlike people, dogs and cats can't cool themselves efficiently, making them much more vulnerable to overheating.

🚨 **Signs of Heat Stroke Include:**
🐶 Excessive panting or difficulty breathing
💧 Thick drool
❤️ Bright red or pale gums
😴 Weakness or collapse
🤢 Vomiting or diarrhea
🚶 Stumbling or disorientation
⚠️ Seizures or unconsciousness (emergency!)

💙 **How to Keep Your Pet Safe:**
✔️ Walk dogs early in the morning or after sunset.
✔️ Always provide fresh, cool water and plenty of shade.
✔️ Never leave a pet in a parked vehicle—even for a few minutes.
✔️ Avoid strenuous exercise during the hottest part of the day.
✔️ Remember that hot pavement can burn paw pads—if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their feet!

🐴 **Don't forget our large animal friends!** Horses, cattle, goats, and other livestock also need access to shade and clean, fresh water during hot weather. Watch for signs of heat stress, especially after exercise or hauling.

🚑 **If you think your pet is suffering from heat stroke:**
Move them to a cool, shaded area, offer small amounts of cool (not ice-cold) water, wet them with cool water, and **seek veterinary care immediately.** Heat stroke is a life-threatening emergency, and quick treatment can save a life.

🚨 **New World Screwworm Alert for Horse & Livestock Owners** 🚨

Recent reports of the **New World Screwworm** have many livestock owners asking questions—and for good reason. While there is no need to panic, now is the time to be vigilant.

The New World Screwworm is a fly whose larvae (maggots) infest **living tissue through open wounds**. Cattle, horses, sheep, goats, pigs, and other warm-blooded animals are at risk. If left untreated, these infestations can rapidly become life-threatening.

🐴🐄 **Protect your animals by:**
✔️ Inspecting all animals daily for cuts, wounds, branding sites, dehorning or castration sites, tick bites, and navels on newborns.
✔️ Treating wounds promptly and keeping them clean.
✔️ Watching for signs such as excessive irritation, swelling, foul-smelling drainage, or maggots in a wound.
✔️ Contacting your veterinarian immediately if you suspect a screwworm infestation.

Early detection is critical. Prompt treatment not only protects the affected animal but also helps prevent the spread of this serious pest.
