Eggs for health

Eggs are rich in several nutrients that promote heart health such as betaine and choline. During pregnancy and breast feeding, an adequate supply of choline is particularly important, since choline is essential for normal brain development. In traditional, eggs are recommended to strengthen the blood and increase energy by enhancing digestive and kidney function.

Eggs are a useful source of Vitamin D which helps to protect bones, preventing osteoporosis and rickets.. Eggs should be included as part of a varied and balanced diet. They are filling and when enjoyed for breakfast may help with weight management, as they high protein content helps us to feel fuller for longer.

Afro-eggs launched their first product, nutritious yellow-yolked eggs, only four weeks after the first Switch-Africa Green-Starter session in Uganda last month. Together with SAG & SEED, they developed a strategy and brand, tested the product and went to market before the second workshop was finished.

Egg Yolk, The Perfect First Food for Baby.

Egg yolks supply essential nutrients important for the development of the brain, as they are rich in choline, good cholesterol and iron.

“Egg yolk supplies cholesterol needed for mental development as well as important sulfur-containing amino acids. Egg yolks from pasture-fed hens or hens raised on flax meal, fish meal or insects are also rich in the omega-3 long-chain fatty acids found in mother’s milk but which may be lacking in cow’s milk.

These fatty acids are essential for the development of the brain. Parents who institute the practice of feeding egg yolk to baby will be rewarded with children who speak and take directions at an early age.

The white, which contains difficult-to-digest proteins, should not be given before the age of one year. Small amounts of grated, raw organic liver may be added occasionally to the egg yolk after six months. This imitates the practice of African mothers who chew liver before giving it to their infants as their first food. Liver is rich in iron, the one mineral that tends to be low in mother’s milk possibly because iron competes with zinc for absorption.

All Afro-egg’s farms are truly free-range, with hens guaranteed at least 14 square feet of pasture per bird, so the hens have a huge amount of space to roam and eat grass, bugs, worms, etc. (eating these little critters are what make the egg yolks so golden).

Hens are given wooden perching towers, sand pits for dust bathing (a natural behavior), plus clean water + feeding troughs – all rarities in the egg industry, believe it or not.

Eggs from pasture-raised hens are the most nutritious and tastiest.

Colour is one of the most important factors that affect consumer choices through the sensory evaluation of food, including egg yolks. Optimal hen health is required for the efficient deposit of colour-influencing carotenoids in eggs.
