A simple, productive 3 stage tank set-up for breeding red claw crayfish:

1. Adult broodstock
2. Berried females/ craylings
3. Growing on

Post stage 3, the best crayfish are kept for selective breeding. The rest can then be stocked into outside earthen grow-out ponds to reach market size.

The Red Claw breeding season is now in full swing.
It's a neverending supply of berried-up females this time of year.

These are separated from the main broodstock until hatching is complete.

Some are placed in their own tanks, small communal tanks and pots placed in freshly prepared crayling tanks.

We're also in the throws of trialing egg incubation.
This involves striping the eggs from the females and incubating them until they become craylings.

The idea is to considerably increase our juvenile production for restocking our own grow-out ponds and supply juveniles to farmers who grow them out to market size but don't breed their own.
