A delegation from Japan - Prof. Kohei Makita (Rakuno Gakuen University), Dr. Takehisa Yamamoto, and Dr. Sonoko Kondo from the National Institute of Animal Health, National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO) visited R-FETPV and FAO RAP on 25–26 November 2025 to discuss collaboration on strengthening veterinary epidemiology capacity.
The Japanese team expressed a strong interest in learning from the R-FETPV model to upskill veterinarians into veterinary epidemiologists. Dr. Sith Premashthira (R-FETPV Manager), Dr. Tippawon Parakgamawongsa (R-FETPV Coordinator), and Dr. Tang Hao (FAO RAP Project Manager) joined the discussions.
The delegation also observed R-FETPV activities during the R-FETPV Conference at the International Conference on Veterinary Science (ICVS) at Impact Forum Muang Thong Thani, where trainees presented their outbreak investigation outputs.

📣 R-FETPV at ICVS 2025!
On 24–25 November, R-FETPV proudly joined the International Conference on Veterinary Science 2025 (ICVS 2025) to showcase outbreak investigation achievements from our trainees.

The event on 25 November opened with an inspiring keynote by Dr. Tosapol Dejyong, Regional Project Management Specialist (Health Security), U.S. Embassy Thailand, on “From One Health to Global Health Security: The Next Frontier of Veterinary Field Epidemiology.” His talk reinforced the importance of the One Health approach and highlighted how epidemiological principles can be effectively applied in real-world settings.

Our R-FETPV trainees then presented their outbreak investigation findings on topics such as rabies in Thailand and Lao PDR, FMD and L*D in Nepal, canine distemper, and melioidosis in dolphins. Trainees, mentors, and participants exchanged valuable knowledge on epidemiology, animal disease control, and zoonoses.

The session concluded with certificate presentations to celebrate our trainees’ dedication and to express appreciation to our mentors for their continuous support.

R-FETPV supports trainee in rabies outbreak investigation, Rayong Province

As part of the R-FETPV 2nd Module, Dr.Patamaporn Kucharonphaisarn conducted an outbreak investigation in Ban Takuan, Mueang Rayong District, where rabies was still spreading.

Upon identifying the situation, R-FETPV immediately coordinated with the Rayong Provincial Livestock Office. On 9 September, the trainee presented her findings to Dr. Thaiwiwat Wanasuk, Provincial Livestock Officer of Rayong. Following this, a joint team from R-FETPV, the Provincial Livestock Office, and the Eastern Veterinary Research and Development Center revisited the outbreak site.

Some challenges were observed in controlling the outbreak. R-FETPV provided technical guidance to support trainee and local officers in improving disease control measures.

✅ The activity was successfully conducted with strong collaboration.

การประชุมศิษย์เก่า R-FETPV เสริมสร้างเครือข่ายและยกระดับทักษะระบาดวิทยาภาคสนาม
กลุ่มระบาดวิทยาทางสัตวแพทย์ สำนักควบคุม ป้องกันและบำบัดโรคสัตว์ กรมปศุสัตว์ โครงการพัฒนานายสัตวแพทย์นักระบาดวิทยาภาคสนาม (R-FETPV) จัดการประชุมเครือข่ายศิษย์เก่า ระหว่างวันที่ 25–26 สิงหาคม 2568 ณ สถาบันสุขภาพสัตว์แห่งชาติ กรุงเทพมหานคร มีศิษย์เก่า R-FETPV ชาวกรมปศุสัตว์เข้าร่วม 51 คนจากทั่วประเทศ ร่วมด้วยอาจารย์พี่เลี้ยง และผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิ อีกจำนวน 17 คน
ภายในงาน ผู้เข้าร่วมได้ฟัง ภาพรวมการพัฒนาโครงการ R-FETPV และการบรรยายพิเศษด้านการทำแผนฉุกเฉินด้านสุขภาพสัตว์ รวมถึงการแลกเปลี่ยนประสบการณ์จาก ศิษย์เก่าผู้แทนพื้นที่ ที่นำเสนอกรณีศึกษาการสอบสวนและแก้ไขปัญหาสุขภาพสัตว์ในภาคสนาม เช่น กรณีโรคเมลิออยซิสในนกนางแอ่น และการทบทวนหลังปฏิบัติงาน (AAR) แก้ปัญหากระบือป่วยตายในภาคเหนือ

Empowering R-FETPV Mentors💪✨ to Advance Animal and Public Health – Workshop Held in Chonburi, Thailand
The Bureau of Disease Control and Veterinary Services, through the Regional Field Epidemiology Training Program for Veterinarians (R-FETPV), organized a workshop from May 19–21, 2025, in Chonburi Province, Thailand. The objective was to strengthen the capacity of R-FETPV mentors and review the training curriculum to enhance the overall effectiveness and impact of the program.
This workshop brought together participants from various sectors, including R-FETPV mentors and alumni, FETP graduates, faculty members from Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsart University, and Chiang Mai University, representative from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and in-country mentors from other veterinary epidemiology training programs in the Asia-Pacific region, who joined the workshop via Zoom Cloud Meeting.
The shared goal was to enhance the capabilities of mentors and alumni in veterinary epidemiology and related competencies, enabling more effective contributions to animal health management, safe food production, and public health. The workshop fostered a highly engaging and inclusive atmosphere that encouraged participants to actively share ideas and experiences. This open environment facilitated a wide range of meaningful discussions, leading to the development of practical strategies that can be applied to improve future program outcomes.
