Ever caught your chinchilla just… staring at you? 😂🐭

There are actually a few reasons why they might do this!

✨ They’re curious about what you’re doing
✨ They recognise you and are keeping an eye on you
✨ They may be waiting for food, treats or playtime
✨ They’re observing their surroundings
✨ They may simply feel comfortable enough to sit and watch you

Of course, always look at their overall body language too. A relaxed chinchilla calmly watching you is very different from one who looks tense, frightened or distressed.

Sometimes though… they’re probably just wondering what their human is up to. 😂

A chinchilla sitting quietly in your arms doesn’t always mean they’re enjoying the cuddle! 🤍

Look at the little signs:
✨ Relaxed body and normal breathing
✨ Curious and comfortable around you
✨ Not constantly trying to jump away
✨ Calm ears and body language

Every chinchilla has a different personality. Some love cuddles, while others prefer sitting beside you and interacting on their own terms. 🥹

The best way to build trust? Let your chinchilla choose to interact with you. 🐭💕

Fun fact: Chinchillas have excellent hearing and can be very alert to sounds around them. Even when they look super relaxed or sleepy, they may still notice what’s happening around them. 👂✨

Yes, your chinchilla can see you! 👀🐭🤍

But their vision is quite different from ours.

Chinchillas have a wide field of vision and are well adapted to seeing in lower-light environments. They can detect movement well, although they don't see fine details and colours in quite the same way humans do.

Yes — gentle nibbling can be a normal part of chinchilla behaviour! 🤎

Chinchillas are naturally curious and use their teeth to explore their surroundings. So sometimes, your fingers, clothes… and even you become part of their investigation. 😂

A soft little nibble is usually nothing to worry about. However, hard or repeated biting, especially together with signs of fear or stress, can mean your chinchilla is uncomfortable and needs some space.

Every chinchilla has their own personality too — some are little nibblers, while others prefer to keep their teeth strictly for hay and chew toys! 🌿😂
