Strengthening is an important part of rehabilitation. 🏋🏻‍♀️
But sometimes, it isn’t where we start.

When a dog is already compensating during everyday movements,
simply making an exercise harder may not address what’s limiting them.

Sometimes, we need to work on the basics first,
improving weight-bearing,
movement control,
or helping them engage the muscles we’re trying to strengthen.

It’s not about avoiding challenging exercises.
It’s about choosing the right exercise,
at the right level, for the dog in front of us. 🐕

Physio doesn’t always have to start
after something goes wrong.

Sometimes the reason is clear,
like after surgery, injury, pain or a loss of function.
Other times, it may simply be that your dog moves a little differently,
has a known condition,
or has higher physical demands from sport or work.

That doesn’t automatically mean something is wrong,
or that they’ll need physio forever.

Sometimes we rehabilitate,
sometimes we strengthen,
sometimes we monitor,
and sometimes we simply reassure.

The goal is always the same:
to help your dog move well for the life they want to live. 🐾

Ever wondered why an assessment needs time? 👀

An assessment isn’t just the hands-on part.
It starts before that even begins.
We take the time to let your dog settle,
observe how they move,
listen to what you’ve noticed at home,
and figure out what works best for them.

We observe. We listen. We adapt.
And when they’re comfortable, we take a closer look.

Because the better we understand your dog,
the better we can decide what they need
and how best to move forward.

Every dog is different and their assessment should be too. 💙

The iliopsoas may sit deep within the body, but it plays an important role in both hindlimb and lower back movement.

And because it connects these areas, changes in how your dog moves or loads their body can influence how hard this muscle has to work.

Another reminder that when it comes to movement, no muscle works in isolation. 🐾

A little more time for what matters 🤍

From 1 October 2026, our NIMBLE™️ Clinical Assessment will be extended to 75 minutes, with the assessment fee updated to $295 nett.

As our assessment process has grown increasingly comprehensive, the additional time gives us the space to assess thoroughly, discuss our findings with you, begin treatment where appropriate, and make sure you leave with a clear understanding of the next steps for your pet.

Appointments booked before 1 October will retain the current $260 assessment fee, even if the appointment takes place from October onwards.

Our Physiotherapy Review rates remain unchanged.

More time to assess. More time to explain. More time for what matters! 🤍

Knowing who does what can make
navigating your dog’s care a little less confusing 🐾

Just like in human healthcare,
vets, specialists, physiotherapists and hydrotherapists
can each bring something different to the table.

Sometimes that means
working together to support a dog with a long-term condition.
Other times,
it might mean looking a little closer at an active dog who seems completely fine,
but has subtle changes in the way they move.

There isn’t one pathway that fits every dog,
and rehabilitation doesn’t always mean doing more treatments.

It starts with understanding what your dog needs,
what we’re trying to achieve,
and choosing the right approach from there. 💙

🎉 A big milestone for our team! 🎉

We’re so excited to celebrate Sam, who is now officially a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP) through the University of Tennessee!

Sam joined Nimble Paws with 7 years of experience as a physiotherapist, bringing with her a strong background in neurological rehabilitation and amputee care. Since transitioning into animal rehabilitation, she has put in months of studying, practical training and clinical work alongside her patients at Nimble Paws.

And now, the certificate is finally here! 🥹🎓

We’re incredibly proud to have another CCRP-certified physiotherapist on our team, and even happier to see Sam continue growing into the animal rehabilitation space.

More knowledge, more experience, and the same goal we’ve always had: helping our patients move better and supporting their humans through every stage of rehabilitation 💙

Congratulations, Sam. You earned this! 🥳🐶

Choosing a physiotherapist for your pet can feel overwhelming,
especially when different clinics and practitioners
may have very different training backgrounds and approaches.

A good place to start is by asking simple questions:
- Who is treating your pet?
- What are they trained in?
- How will your pet be assessed?
- Why is a particular treatment being recommended?
- How will you know if things are progressing?

Rehabilitation should be based on your pet
as an individual,
with clear goals,
appropriate reassessment,
open communication
and a plan that changes as your dog does.

The right questions can help you better understand the care your dog is receiving
and the team supporting them through rehabilitation. 🐾

🐾 An IVDD diagnosis is only the beginning of the recovery journey.

What happens next can look very different from dog to dog.
Treatment decisions are guided by your veterinarian,
while recovery depends on factors such as
neurological status,
severity of injury,
the tissues involved and
any underlying conditions.

Even two dogs with the same diagnosis
may need very different timelines and rehabilitation plans.

Feeling better doesn’t always mean fully healed.
Rehabilitation should progress according to what your dog is ready for,
rather than simply how many weeks have passed.

We’ve broken down what happens after an IVDD diagnosis in this carousel.
