He said goodbye to his best friend the same way they had spent so many years together, riding the waves side by side.
In August 2026, Costa Rican surf instructor Diego Jimรฉnez gave his beloved dog Thai one final trip to the ocean after 16 years together.
Thai had been battling cancer, and when the time came to say goodbye, Diego carried him onto a surfboard, scattered flower petals around him, and let the waves become their final shared place.
Diego later wrote, โSee you soonโฆ we will always feel each other, in every wave, in every sunset, always in the sea.โ
Their farewell touched millions online because it was more than a goodbye. It was one last moment in the place where so many of their happiest memories had been made.
Sixteen years of friendship, one final wave, and a love the ocean could never wash away.
