What would it take to track insect movement across an entire rice-growing region?

It starts with a network.

Across Vietnam’s Mekong Delta, approximately 132 RYNAN InSentinel stations are collecting field-level insect data across one of the country’s most important rice-producing regions.

Each station identifies and counts insect species, monitors changes in their populations and records when and where activity occurs.

But an individual station only tells us what is happening at one location.

When data from multiple stations is connected through the RYNAN VDAPES platform, we can begin comparing insect activity between locations, tracking population changes and identifying possible movement patterns across the region.

This is how individual monitoring points become part of a wider agricultural intelligence network.

For ministries and agricultural departments, the opportunity goes beyond monitoring a single farm. It is about building the infrastructure needed to understand pest pressure across districts, provinces and major crop-production areas.

Want to reduce pesticide use in your field?

Sometimes, there may be more beneficial insects than pests in the field. So, the question is: are we intervening at the right time?

Swipe through to discover how beneficial insects, combined with smarter monitoring, can help farmers and agronomists make more informed decisions for pest management.

“There was one weekend where we lost around 10 to 12 tonnes of yield..”

In this interview, we sat down with Wafiyuddin, a Paddy Operations Officer at Wasan Milling Company to learn more about the challenges of pest management in paddy fields in Brunei.

From tedious manual scouting to now having visibility on insect population trends on the go, find out what changed after they implemented the RYNAN InSentinel, an AI-powered insect monitoring system and his views on how technology is transforming agriculture to move towards a data driven future.

What if visible crop damage is not the first sign of a pest problem?

Pest populations can rise quickly and often go unnoticed. By the time crop damage becomes visible, the window for early intervention may already be narrowing.

RYNAN InSentinel uses AI-powered insect monitoring to detect and identify insect activity in the field. With real-time data and alerts, farmers and agronomists can better understand what is happening and make more informed pest-management decisions before the situation escalates.

Bringing Malaysia and Vietnam together for smarter agriculture. 🌾

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what went on during the Smart Agriculture Training & Pilot Project Launch with Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA).

From digital agriculture and insect monitoring SaaS platform training, to a tour of RYNAN’s facilities, farm visits and knowledge exchange, it gave us the opportunity to share how our technologies are being applied on the ground in Vietnam to support smarter and more sustainable agriculture.

More importantly, it opened up discussions on how these technologies and learnings can be adapted to Malaysia’s agricultural landscape as we move into the pilot phase. We’re looking forward to taking what was discussed in the training room into the field.

A new chapter for smarter agriculture in Malaysia 🌾🤝

Yesterday was a significant milestone for RYNAN Technologies and MADA (Muda Agricultural Development Authority) as we officially launched our Smart Agriculture Training & Pilot Project, alongside the signing ceremony that marks the beginning of this partnership.

The session brought together Brian, CEO of RYNAN Technologies Singapore, and Fadzil, Director of the Mechanical and Electrical Division from MADA, who shared their perspectives on how technology, data and collaboration can contribute to a more sustainable and greener future for Malaysia.

This collaboration is an opportunity to bring smart agriculture solutions into the field, and explore how technology can support farmers and the agricultural ecosystem.

We look forward to the continuous learning, innovating and growing together with MADA as we take this next step towards smarter agriculture.

Seeing smarter rice farming in action!

Day 2 with representatives from MADA (Muda Agricultural Development Authority) and Nusaraya took us into the field to see how RYNAN’s solutions are being integrated and practiced.

Our first stop was at a rice farm equipped with RYNAN MethanEYE® and AWD+, where the team also met Mr. Tran Van Chung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Phat Tai Agricultural Cooperative, in Chau Thanh Commune. He shared his experience in implementing smarter rice farming practices to reduce water usage and support lower methane emissions, aligned with Vietnam’s One Million Hectares of High-Quality, Low-Emission Rice Programme through the “1 Must Do, 5 Reductions” approach.

The team also explored RYNAN Smart Water Management Systems, RYNAN InSENTINEL®, one of the very first Insect Monitoring System model, followed by a lab visit to the Pest & Predator Research Department.

More than a technology showcase, the visit was an opportunity to exchange experiences and explore how these solutions and practices could be adapted to MADA's agricultural ecosystem.

What does it take to bring digital agriculture from a technology platform into real-world implementation at scale?

That was one of the key conversations behind our training with representatives from the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) and Nusaraya at RYNAN Technologies in Vietnam, as part of the Smart Agriculture Training & Pilot Project Launch.

The programme began with technical training on the RYNAN VDAPES digital agriculture platform and InSENTINEL® SaaS platform, exploring how field data, AI-powered pest monitoring and digital tools can support more informed agricultural monitoring and decision-making.

Beyond the platforms, the delegation was also introduced to RYNAN’s technology development capabilities across manufacturing, assembly, R&D, AI and technical operations, covering both the hardware and software behind InSENTINEL® and our wider smart agriculture ecosystem. Having these capabilities closely integrated allows our teams to develop, test and refine technologies based on real field requirements, and importantly, understand what is needed to take them from technology development to practical field application.

The training also opened up valuable discussions between our teams around pest monitoring, real-time data, field implementation and how these technologies can be adapted to Malaysia’s rice production landscape.

The next step is to take these discussions into the field, as we move from training towards pilot implementation and begin the ground truthing process.

Follow us as we see the systems at work in the field tomorrow!
