Singapore Dog Festival Day 2

The weather is cool and dogs plenty. We are having fun looking at all the different breeds of dogs - italian greyhounds, poodles, great dane, jack russell terriers (jack rascal as we call them)

It is a GO!

We are going to be at Palawan Green Sentosa today (23rd October) from 3pm onwards. Tomorrow (24th October) and Sunday (25th October)

We saw what the organizer Singapore Dog Festival has done. If we are dogs, we would simply love it too!

We are at Booth or Tent E12.

It will be all about FirstMate and FirstMate and FirstMate!

FirstMate & Kasiks Pet Foods

This was the one and only cat food grain free product available at the time we brought FirstMate to Singapore. Yup 15 years ago and how time has flown past. Now there is the grain free chicken and grain free duck (all with added whole blueberries). Plus of course the grain friendly version - indoor and cat/kitten

At that time when we started another friend introduced us to the folks of Cat Cafe Neko no Niwa Cat Cafe Neko no Niwa (Samuel & Sue). They decided the cats in the cafe would be on FirstMate Pacific Ocean Fish & Bluberries.

It was a wild ride with plenty of ups and downs because we even had someone lodged a report on the quality of the food to then AVA. We lost our confidence then as a company and as individuals because we thought “did we do something so wrong?”

We learnt from the experience. Most recently again, we had someone who told us that the food caused her dog to have loose stools. We shared this feedback to the FirstMate plant. They check through their production run, check through all the tests (as they do a full audit on their ingredient sourcing and manufacturing processes). Do we believe in it? Of course we do. That is how we still firmly believe in the brand all these years.

We will be at the Singapore Dog Festival 23rd October to 25th October 2026. We will not have the cat food with us (as it is a dog event and we also know some cats might be terrified by the over zealous friendly nature of dogs hahaha). Come by if you wanna know more about the food.

FirstMate Chicken with (Whole) Blueberries. That is how Can & Clover started 15 years ago. A friend just had difficulty getting this food for her golden retrievers. She liked it because the food was simple enough and contains whole blueberries. The formula has not changed over the 15 years we have been selling it in Singapore.

Is it time for us to take on another brand or switch to another more trendy brand? Maybe. Afterall how much can you talk about kibbles right?

For us, we like the tried and tested things. The familiar or the slight resistance to change. Maybe.

This food has proven to help dogs with their tear stains, we know because we tried it and it worked.

The Singapore Dog Festival happens on 23rd October 2026 3pm onwards. We will be there minus the products (as it is still travelling to Singapore). We will be with deals that you can chope and have it delivered to you when it arrives

A longer read.

We know most of our customers who feed their dogs FirstMate do not follow us on IG so if you know of friends who are feeding FirstMate, please help us forward this message to them

While we have been operating Can & Clover for 14 years, maybe we are delusional optimists but we always believe we can overcome whatever challenges are ahead of us. Maybe after this year, we got to admit to ourselves, operating and running a micro business is not our forte.

In August 2026, we decided to take up a booth at Singapore Dog Festival. We decided because of 2 main reasons - we were working with a brand who said YES to us launching the brand at Singapore Dog Festival plus using the opportunity to re-introduce the FirstMate brand to more dog owners.

Since then, the launch of the new brand has been taken over by another company and our FirstMate stock will not arrive on time for the Singapore Dog Festival. But we have already committed to the event.

So without any FirstMate product, what do we showcase right? Well, we came up with some ideas and hashed a plan. The ONE thing we did not plan for and something that we totally cannot control - the weather. Hahahaha. Triple whammy right?

Tomorrow (21st October 2026) we would know officially if the weather holds up and whether the event will proceed this weekend (23rd to 25th October 2026). If the organisers tell us it is a GO, we will still evaluate for our friends who will be helping us at the event and ourselves, if the haze is worth proceeding.

We will use this platform to update everyone so stay tuned. So please bear with us.

When we first introduced Yeowww! Catnip toy at PolyPet, we remember the reaction from customers that we spoke to.

We remember one partic couple who refused to allow their cats to play with Yeowww! Catnip because their cats reacted so “violently” to the toy. They thought their cats were going crazy and immediately threw the toy away. No matter how much we told them it was okay, they were not convinced (read our next post to confirm we are hopeless hahaha)

Now, we can see more and more people have accepted how their cats reach to Yeowww! Catnip toys. Here are more reasons why every cat should have at least one or more Yeowww! Catnip toys!

P.S. The Yeowww! Xmas range should be available soon. With the exception of the catbat which is completely out of stock at the manufacturer. So start planning that gift list for all the good and notti cats in your list 😂
