Help can be come in many ways and I think we need to consider both the cat and their potential caregiverโฃ๏ธ
So a few questions I would ask myself:
- Is this a new cat to the area?
- Are ears tipped?
- Does it look fed and healthy?
- Does it look comfortable in the area or lost and scared?
- If there are health concerns, can they wait a few days or require immediate attention?
- Can you yourself take the cat to a vet to get checked for a chip?
Letโs look at some examples:

Bring to the nearest vet or call SPCA or AVS, try to stay with the animal until pick up. Take pictures and after the cat is taken care of try to locate feeder (FB groups or leave a note)๐

Very friendly and you think to take it home. Locate the feeder first! Never just "adopt" a cat from the street. Sometimes they are well loved and the only purpose and elderly feeder may have. Sometimes they have shown to not be compatible with indoor life! If you are ready to adopt, please visit a shelter or rescue group and give a cat in bigger need for comfort and care a home!
Those may not cover all cases, but maybe they help you decide on your next steps when you encounter a cat on the street.
