🤔Did you know that British Shorthairs come in many beautiful colours 🌈

🧬In feline genetics, there is something called the dilution gene, which can soften the appearance of a cat’s original coat colour.

🩶 BLUE — Why is a grey cat called Blue?

In the cat fancy, the colour we commonly call grey is officially known as BLUE!

Why? Because this beautiful blue-grey shade is actually the genetically diluted version of BLACK! 🖤➡️💙

🤍 FAWN — The Delicate Beauty!

Fawn is a soft, warm beige or purplish grey shade.

Interestingly, Fawn is genetically the diluted version of CINNAMON! 🤎➡️🤍

🍫 CHOCOLATE — The Sweet Cocoa!

Unlike Blue and Fawn, Chocolate is not a diluted colour. Chocolate British Shorthairs get their beautiful, rich brown colour from a recessive genetic variation affecting black pigment.

🐾 Fun Facts About the British Longhair

🇬🇧The British Longhair is developed from British Shorthair bloodlines. Historically, British Shorthairs were crossed with longhaired breeds, particularly Persians, to help rebuild and develop the breed. The longhair gene remained in some British lines, occasionally producing beautifully fluffy kittens.

❌They are not simply a “long-haired British Shorthair.” Their charm comes from the combination of classic British structure, round teddy 🐻 or 🦁 expression, substantial body and a magnificent crisp fluff coat with volume rather than lying flat, creating that beautiful fluffy teddy-bear appearance.

🧬Their typical temperament are calm, gentle and affectionate, yet wonderfully independent. They love being close to their people without being overly demanding, making them easygoing and lovable companions.
