SOFT TANNING — BUT WHAT DOES “TANNING” REALLY MEAN? ☀️
We often hear:
“Brighter light = stronger tanning.”
“Higher Kelvin = better tanning.”
For us, no.
At TheDragonDen, we believe tanning isn't about how bright a light looks or what Kelvin rating it carries.
💡 Brightness is simply how intense the light appears to our eyes.
🌡️ Kelvin describes the colour appearance of the light — warmer, whiter or bluer. It does not determine whether a light has a tanning effect.
☀️ Tanning, to us, is about UVB.
A proper tanning light should be designed around the appropriate UVB spectrum and output, rather than simply being a bright aquarium light.
So in simple TDD language:
Brightness ≠ Tanning
Kelvin ≠ Tanning
UVB = the key factor we look at for tanning
That's why we don't believe in simply calling any bright aquarium light a “tanning light”.
That's our definition of Soft Tanning.
