𝗠𝗘𝗘𝗧 𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗙𝗨𝗟𝗟-𝗧𝗜𝗠𝗘 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗦𝗧 👁️
We’re delighted to welcome Dr. Aurélie Bourguet, DVM, Dip. ECVO, Dip. DESV-Ophta, to The Eye Specialist for Animals as a full-time veterinary ophthalmology specialist.

A European and French-recognised specialist in veterinary ophthalmology, Dr. Bourguet brings over 14 years of clinical experience, most recently serving as Head of the Ophthalmology Department at Atlantia Veterinary Hospital in Nantes, France, where she led a high-volume referral service managing complex medical and surgical cases.

Her areas of advanced expertise include complex corneal grafting, vitreoretinal surgery, phacoemulsification and exotic animal ophthalmology. Beyond clinical practice, she is also an active researcher, international speaker, lecturer and resident supervisor, and serves on the ECVO Education and Residency Committee.

Dr. Bourguet’s arrival further strengthens TESA’s ability to provide dedicated specialist ophthalmic care in Singapore, supported by our advanced diagnostic, medical and surgical facilities.

We’re very excited to have her join the TESA team. 💙

𝗥𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘆𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝘇𝘆 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 — 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻? 🌫️

Haze and airborne particles may irritate the eyes, so it’s understandable to make the connection. But when redness appears during a hazy period, that association alone doesn’t establish the cause.

A red eye is a clinical sign shared by many different eye conditions. Some may cause mild surface irritation, while others involve the cornea, tear film or structures within the eye — and several can look remarkably similar in the early stages.

This is why 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘆𝗲 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝘁. 👁️

The distinction is important because treatment depends on the underlying cause. An eye that appears simply “irritated” may require a very different approach once examined properly.

So if your pet develops a new or persistent red eye, it’s worth having it assessed by your veterinarian — even when the haze seems like the obvious explanation.

🐾 Where specialist eye care is required, your veterinarian can arrange a referral to 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘆𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀.

We celebrate every big and small victory — from the beautiful moments when pets regain their sight and rediscover the world, to the harder paths where, despite our best efforts, some had to lose an eye due to tumours or irreversible conditions.

To the pet parents who walked through those painful decisions and moments with courage and love, we see you. We hope time brings gentle healing and peace to your hearts.

As we step into 2026, may it be filled with healing, hope, clearer days, and happier tails 🐾✨

Through every busy clinic day, every challenge, and every unexpected turn, this incredible team continues to show strength, compassion, and heart.

No matter how tough things get, we face it all together — lifting one another up, finding laughter in between the chaos, and reminding ourselves why we do what we do.

Today’s team bonding wasn’t just about taking a break; it was about celebrating the people who make TESA what it is — resilient, dedicated, and full of heart.

Thank you to each and every one of you for standing strong through it all — through long days, tight schedules, and the countless moments that test our limits. You make every challenge worth it.

Its time for an interesting post on rabbits! This is a 8 year old rabbit that presented like this. The owner was concerned because there was blood around the left eye.. what is our diagnosis?
On examination, the right eye has a light brown discolouration in the sclera (eye white). [Swipe to see where yellow arrow is pointing]. The eye pressure was 26 mmHg on presentation.
In the left eye, there is a dark brown protrusion. The iris from within the eye had ruptured through the eye white [Swipe to see where red arrow points]. The Eye pressure here was 4 mmHg.

Both eyes were already blind with no responses to light.... however the owner has not noticed any changes in the rabbit's behaviour...

This rabbit had chronic glaucoma (eye pressure was high). These high eye pressures have thinned out the sclera (eye white). You can see the brown ciliary body body (usually out of sight) through the thinned eye white (yellow arrow). In the left eye, it has become so thinned that the eye white completely ruptured and the iris is out of the eye.

The rabbit's left eye was in obvious pain but the right eye did not appear painful. However, an eye rupture is impending in the right eye.

Glaucoma in animals usually lead to pain however animals generally do not show weakness or pain signs because they are either hunted or hunters in nature.

For domesticated animals, we can offer enucleation as pain relief. They can still have a good quality of life if they are not in pain.
