Our latest project features a 4FT Waterbox Peninsula, carefully transferred and upgraded with a custom aquascape designed for a mixed reef environment.

The goal? Create an open, balanced underwater landscape with plenty of room for coral placement, natural water circulation and future growth.

Ever seen a tiny plant shimmer blue, bronze or purple beneath aquarium lights? 🌿✨

Meet 𝗕𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮, Borneo’s slow-growing freshwater beauty. It’s a favourite among aquascapers not just for its colours, but because it can thrive both underwater and above the waterline!

Here’s what makes this little plant special:

🪨 𝗥𝗵𝗶𝘇𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲 — Attach it to rock or driftwood. Burying its thick horizontal stem can cause rot.

💡 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 — Low to moderate light usually works well. Too much can invite algae onto those slow-growing leaves.

💧 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱𝘀 — Grow it submerged in a freshwater tank or emersed in a humid paludarium. Above water doesn’t mean dry!

🌡️ 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗶𝗽 — In Singapore’s heat, watch tank temperatures and keep conditions stable.

🌱 𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗜𝘁 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 — New plants sometimes shed leaves while adjusting. A healthy rhizome may still produce fresh growth.

In Borneo, some Bucephalandra grow beside streams that rise and fall with the rain. That adaptability is part of their charm.

Your reef can look perfectly healthy while its salinity is quietly changing. One day everything seems fine, and the next your corals look stressed. Could the salt level be drifting?

In a reef tank, stability matters just as much as hitting the right number. Even a small change can affect sensitive marine life.

🌊 Salinity Target — Most mixed reefs aim for around 35 ppt, roughly 1.0264 specific gravity at 25°C with the right calibration.
🔬 Refractometer Calibration — Use an appropriate 35 ppt calibration standard so your readings are reliable.
💧 Evaporation — Water evaporates, but salt stays behind. Top up with fresh RO/DI water, not saltwater.
🪣 Water Changes — Match the new saltwater's salinity to your tank before adding it.
⚙️ Automatic Top-Off — An ATO helps maintain stability, but sensors, reservoirs and safeguards still need regular checks.

Something softer from the October shipment. 🇮🇩
Alongside the SPS arrivals, our October Week 1 Indonesia shipment also includes these striking Clove Polyps with vivid lavender-pink tones and bright contrasting tips under actinic lighting.
They add a completely different texture to a reef — delicate polyp movement, strong fluorescence and plenty of visual interest without needing a massive colony.
