🌫️ THE HAZE IS BACK BUT WHAT ABOUT OUR PETS? 🇸🇬🐾

We check the PSI. We close the windows. We switch on the air purifier.

But our pets are breathing the same air too.

Haze can irritate the respiratory system and it’s not just dogs and cats. Birds, rabbits, small mammals and other companion animals can be affected too.

👀 Would you recognise the warning signs?
Watch for coughing, increased or unusual breathing effort, noisy breathing or wheezing, sneezing, tiring easily, reduced appetite, lethargy or changes in normal behaviour.

Some pets may be more vulnerable, especially those with pre-existing heart or respiratory conditions, prolonged outdoor exposure, or individual risk factors related to their species, age and anatomy.

💨 When Singapore’s air quality drops:
🏠 Keep pets indoors where possible
🌿 Limit walks and outdoor activity
💨 Run an air purifier if available
💧 Keep them well hydrated
✨ Maintain a clean, dust-free environment
📱 Check NEA’s PSI & PM2.5 readings before heading outdoors

🚨 Most importantly: know when not to wait.

If your pet is struggling to breathe, persistently coughing, open-mouth breathing, extremely lethargic, has blue/grey gums, or is rapidly getting worse, seek emergency veterinary attention immediately.

❤️ Save this post for the next hazy day and share it with another pet parent.

Beecroft Animal Specialist & Emergency Hospital was proud to join the Sengkang East community for Majulah SingaPaw: Back to School Edition.

Our focus was simple: helping pet owners understand the “golden hour” the critical window after an emergency where prompt veterinary care significantly improves outcomes. Being prepared before an emergency happens is one of the most important things a pet owner can do.

We were honoured to welcome Chairperson & Adviser Ms Giam Bernadette Giam Sengkang East Rivervale Community Club and her adopted dog Bruce, who joined us to learn more about emergency preparedness for pet owners.

This event was made possible through collaboration with Hope For Animals SG, PetCareMedic.org and Singapore Red Cross Singapore Red Cross.academy. We thank them and everyone who visited Beecroft booth, for supporting this outreach.

Every step back to happiness matters. 🐾

Cookie mocha and cookie came to through emergency door in critically unwell poor appetite, vomiting, lethargy and barely any urination. What we found was severe acute kidney injury caused by leptospirosis and his little body needed serious help to fight back.

His recovery took a true multidisciplinary team: emergency and critical care to stabilise him, surgery to place his dialysis catheters, and peritoneal dialysis to do the work his kidneys couldn’t all backed by round-the-clock nursing that never left his side, day or night.

Every check-in, every dose, every quiet hour by his kennel added up to this: a Pomeranian who gets to go home, wag his tail and be a very good boy again.

This is why we do what we do. 💙

Swipe through Cookie’s full journey from critical to home. 🐕

Care team: Dr Stephanie (Specialist, Emergency & Critical Care), Dr Tom (Specialist Surgeon), Dr Genevieve, Emergency & Critical Care veterinarians and our team nurses working together every step of the way.

Same goal, different roles 🤝
Singapore 🇸🇬 only Board-certified Behaviour Specialist Dr Emmanuelle Titeux shared her expertise with 100+ attendees at Singapore Botanic Gardens. The topic: “A Collaborative Approach to Addressing Dog Behaviour Issues” an AVS National Parks Board event proudly supported by Beecroft.

The best approach to animal behaviour? Education.

Trainers and behaviourists play a vital role. They’re often the first to spot a problem, and they do the day-to-day work that changes a pets life.

Vets play a role too. Knowing how a behavioural specialist can support a case and how to work together on it makes all the difference for the animals in our care.

Case studies. Great conversations over lunch. A small thank-you gift for Dr Titeux from AVS. 🎁

What a day. Paws & Prepare at Star Vista has just wrapped, and we’re still feeling it. 🐾

Every pet owner has had that moment something’s wrong and you don’t know what to do next. Today was about changing that. Our Emergency & Critical Care Head Nurse, Leila Hallaji, joined The Responsible Pet Care Conversation with expert panelists each bringing a different piece of the puzzle, from emergency training to rescue work to hands-on pet care. Hosted by Eunice Olsen Olsen, a pet owner herself, the conversation covered exactly what to do before help arrives.

Beecroft Animal Specialist & Emergency Hospital also signed an MOU with Singapore Red Cross Singapore Red Cross.academy, Hope For Animals SG , PetCareMedic.org four organisations committing to the same thing: making sure no pet parent in Singapore has to face an emergency without knowing what to do.

To everyone who came by today, asked questions and trusted us with your worries thank you. This is why we do this.

Your pet’s first help starts with you.
