First snow on the ground in Krokträsk! ❄️

Some areas south of us already have enough snow to go out with the sleds, and we can't wait for that time to come here too!

But first, we're happy to finally have some proper cold days and nights, with temperatures dropping to -12°C the past two nights. We'd love a bit more cold before the snow really arrives, so the lakes can freeze properly. And then the white gold can come down without mercy! 🤍

In the meantime, we keep heading out with the dogs every day, having fun and getting everyone fit and ready for the coming season! 🐾

Some pictures from our first overnight training trip! 🐾

All five of our one-year-old youngsters joined us to practise how to behave on the stake-out, and they all behaved like absolute pros!

Some of our oldies came along too and clearly enjoyed the change of scenery.

24 dogs, 3 interns, me, and a beautiful, crisp autumn night. What more could we wish for? ✨

Life with sled dogs sometimes goes smoothly and is a lot of fun, but of course there are also weeks when things don’t go as planned. This week, we ended up at the vet for the second time.

This time it was Matti. He was very stiff and seemed to have quite a bit of pain in his joints. We suspected arthrosis, so we decided to take some X-rays. Two of our interns, who are studying to become vet nurses, were even allowed to help out!

Luckily, Matti’s skeleton looks great, so we continued with some further testing and found a less serious cause in his muscles instead. He is now on pain medication and rest, and we’ll go back to the vet to check if the muscle-related values in his blood have gone down as they should.

For now, the prognosis is good and we expect him to make a full recovery. ❤️

This beautiful little big boy was very suddenly taken away from us. A condition we had never even heard of before made him so weak in just a few hours that even the vet recommended against surgery. There was nothing we could have done to avoid it or to save him. All we could do was be there in his last moments, calming him down and helping him cross to the other side, where he wouldn't be in pain anymore.

Peso really made an impression in the 7 months of his life. He was often inside, cuddling on the sofa or in bed. He joined us on walks and adventures. His heart was so soft. He was incredibly social, sensitive, cuddly and silly. And beautiful, with a great build and so much potential to become an amazing sled dog.

Sometimes death can come so suddenly that it breaks a big piece from your heart. Peso took that piece with him to wherever he is right now. And I like to believe that one day, all those pieces will be connected again.

This one really hurt. He will be deeply missed. ❤️

Bratt, 13 years old ❤️

Some days you can really see his age. His arthrosis is getting worse, he walks stiffly and he has a hard time getting out of the kennel. Other days, he is so excited and full of energy that we can take him along for a shorter walk.

But one thing never changes: his desire for cuddles and that happy face 🥰

Ukko, 2 years ago and now 🥰

He grew from such a cutie into an amazing sled dog! He is eager, has so much energy and focus, and is just a very friendly dog.

Sitting still is definitely not his strongest skill, but he listens really well and loves to work. So who knows… he might become one of our new leading stars!

We’re really looking forward to working more with him and seeing how he develops this season. 🐾
