My female friend has been raising chickens for years and thought she knew everything about them.
The other day she was explaining to her son the difference between male and female goats:
"Male goats have testicles, females don't."
Her son immediately fired back:
"Then where are the rooster's testicles?"
She confidently started answering... then suddenly stopped. 🤔
After a long pause she admitted, "You know what... I've never actually noticed!"
For the next few minutes she was convinced they must be hanging somewhere under all those feathers and she'd somehow missed them for years. 😂
Turns out, unlike mammals, a rooster's testicles are internal and located inside the body cavity near the kidneys. So yes, even people who have kept chickens for years can still learn something new every day!

This diagram shows the reproductive anatomy of a rooster and hen. It illustrates that a rooster's testicles are located inside the body rather than externally, while the hen's o***y and oviduct are responsible for egg production. A good reminder that poultry anatomy is quite different from that of mammals.
