منذ أن رأيتُ لأول مرة استخدام الفرجار الذهبي، الذي قدمه سكوت لامبرت (الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية) في دورة الألعاب الربيعية 2013 في هولندا، تعلمتُ الكثير عن استخدامه وكيفية مساعدة الحصان أثناء تقليم حوافره.

الفرجار الذهبي أداة قياس تعتمد على ما يُسمى النسبة الذهبية.

عندما أبدأ بقياس حافر الحصان، أو حتى أي جزء من جسدي، وألاحظ أن كل شيء يحافظ على تناسب مثالي، أجد الأمر مذهلاً حقًا.

بالنسبة لي، هو مجرد أداة أستخدمها لتدريب عيني ولتحسين قدرتي على قراءة وتفسير حافر الحصان. لا أقوم بتقليم الحافر بناءً على قياساته؛ بل أستخدم القياسات التي أحصل عليها لتأكيد موقع بعض المعالم الطبيعية التي سأضعها في الاعتبار لاحقًا أثناء التقليم.

Since I first saw the use of the golden caliper, presented by Scott Lampert (USA) at the Spring Games 2013 event in the Netherlands, I have learned a great deal about its application and about how to help the horse during hoof trimming.
The golden caliper is a measuring tool based on the so-called golden ratio.
When I begin measuring the horse’s foot, or even any part of my own body, and observe that everything maintains a perfect proportion, I find it simply fascinating.
For me, it is only a tool that I use to train my eye and to better learn how to read and interpret the horse’s foot. I do not trim the hoof based on its measurements; instead, I use the measurements obtained to confirm the location of certain natural references that I will later take into consideration during trimming.

Huge ovarian tumour

This mare was referred to the clinic after the onset of unusual behavioural changes.

Examinations revealed a large ovarian tumour on the right side. The left o***y also showed abnormalities, which is why our surgeons decided to remove both ovaries.

The procedure was performed using minimally invasive surgery, through three small incisions of approximately 1.5 to 2 cm.

Through these small incisions, the large tumour was placed into a surgical bag inside the abdomen. The surgeons then worked directly inside this bag to gradually fragment the mass into several pieces, which were removed one by one.

This technique offers several major advantages for the mare:
• a much smaller surgical wound
• a significantly faster recovery
• a very low risk of complications

With this approach, recovery generally takes around two weeks, whereas a traditional surgery with a large flank incision may require six to eight weeks of rest.

🩵 The mare has now returned home and we wish her a smooth recovery!

This technique is a great illustration of the progress in equine surgery, improving both comfort and recovery for our patients.

This video is explaining the deep digital flexor tendon especially where it runs against the small navicular bone in the hoof. She is explaining that here horse was in severe pain but the extent of damage was not understood until after autopsy. The tendon was badly ruptured with no chance of healing. It is a very educational video. Give her account a follow

Critter’s Story
Deep digital flexor tendon and navicular bone damage to left front.

I made the decision to euthanize in December based more on spine and pelvis pathologies.

Scout, Critter’s only buddy, died in January very suddenly and unexpectedly. After Scout was gone, Critter just completely fell apart. The main thing he revealed was his left front.

Prior to this, I thought it was a carpal and stay apparatus issue.

He obviously has side bone, ringbone, and other issues In the hoof, and we thought that explained it well enough.

I didn’t expect his ddft to look like it exploded.

يا له من فيديو رائع! الصور الثلاث الأولى عادةً ما تكون حميدة، بينما بقية الصور غالباً ما تكون مرضية وتتطلب معالجة فورية. أنصح بشدة أصحاب الحيوانات بإجراء أشعة سينية كفحص أساسي. ستتفاجأون بالمشاكل الخفية. الوقاية خير من العلاج.

What a great video. The first 3 images tend to be benign while the rest are usually pathological and need to be dealt with as soon as possible. I strongly recommend that owners get x-rays as a baseline. You would be surprised about hidden issues. Better to be safe rather than sorry.

Not all hoof bruises are created equal 👇

A benign hoof bruise is usually:
🐴 Small and localized
🐴 Found in a single spot on the sole or hoof wall
🐴 Often the result of a one-time impact

👉 These typically grow out without issue and don’t indicate a deeper problem.

A more concerning bruise tells a different story:
🚩 Bruising around the tip of P3
🚩 Discoloration in the white line
🚩 Multiple rings or widespread bruising

⚠️ These patterns can point to thin soles, chronic stress, or even laminitis

The key isn’t just spotting a bruise - it’s understanding what could be causing it.

Because a “bruise” isn’t always just a bruise
