Your dog needs more than exercise. 🐾✨

Walks are important, but a dog’s well-being isn’t just about how far they walk or how much energy they burn.

Dogs also need time to sniff, explore, feel safe, connect with us and simply slow down. Sometimes, a calm walk with plenty of opportunities to explore is more valuable than a long walk with constant stimulation.

It’s not about doing more. It’s about understanding what your dog really needs. 🤎

Less pressure. More connection.

What does your dog enjoy most on your walks?

Your dog doesn’t have to be perfect. 🐾🤎

They don’t have to listen perfectly every time.
They don’t have to be calm in every situation.
And they don’t have to meet everyone else’s expectations.

Dogs have emotions, needs, boundaries and their own way of experiencing the world.

Sometimes, what we call a problem is simply a dog telling us that something is too much, too difficult or too overwhelming.

Instead of asking ourselves, “How can I stop this behaviour?”, we can start by asking:

✨ “What is my dog trying to tell me?”

Understanding doesn’t mean allowing everything. It means looking beyond the behaviour, setting fair boundaries and helping our dogs navigate the world in a way that feels safe.

Because real progress doesn’t begin with perfection.

It begins with understanding. 🤎

Every dog deserves to be understood, respected and treated with kindness. 🤎🐾

Growing up surrounded by animals taught me that every animal has their own personality, needs and way of experiencing the world.

Over the years, my experiences with dogs have shaped the way I approach training today.

For me, dog training isn’t about fear, intimidation or forcing a dog into obedience.

It’s about understanding behaviour, setting clear and respectful boundaries, and building a relationship based on trust.

I believe that kindness and consistency belong together. Dogs need guidance, structure and support — but never violence.

And respect goes both ways. I want to recognise the boundaries of the dogs I work with, just as I respect the people who trust me to support them.

My goal is to help you build or rediscover your connection with your dog and find practical ways to navigate everyday life together.

No intimidation. No unnecessary pressure. Just honest guidance, understanding and a lot of heart. 🤎

This is what Salty Paws Algarve stands for.

🐾 What matters most to you in your relationship with your dog? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

A little appreciation post for my friend Ylva 🤎📸

These beautiful moments were captured during one of my Social Walks, and I couldn’t be happier with how they turned out! 🐾

What I love about Ylva’s photography is the way she captures the little moments in between – the genuine interactions, the dogs being themselves, and the special connections that happen naturally when we spend time together.

Her pictures tell a story, and I’m so grateful to have these memories from one of my walks captured so beautifully.

Thank you, Ylva, for your talent, your eye for the little details and for these wonderful memories! 🤎

Understanding your dog means looking beyond behaviour. 🐾

What we see on the outside doesn’t always tell us what’s happening on the inside. Pulling, barking, following you everywhere or struggling to settle can have different causes — from stress and uncertainty to frustration or simply not knowing how to cope with a situation.

Instead of judging the behaviour, take a moment to look at the context. What might your dog be experiencing? What are they trying to communicate through their body language?

Your dog isn’t necessarily giving you a hard time. They may be having a hard time themselves. ❤️

Less judgement.
More understanding.
A stronger connection.

Understanding your dog means looking beyond the behaviour. 🐾

Have you ever noticed your dog turning their head away, licking their lips or suddenly yawning during an interaction?

These behaviours can sometimes indicate discomfort or stress — but they don’t always mean the same thing.

The key is to look at the whole situation.

🤎 Observe: What is happening around your dog?

🤎 Pause: Are you noticing several signs of tension together?

🤎 Adjust: Would a little more distance or a quieter environment help?

🤎 Respect: If your dog wants to move away, give them the opportunity to do so.

In dog training, we often focus on what we want our dogs to do. But it’s just as important to notice what they’re communicating to us.

You don’t have to interpret every movement perfectly. Start by observing, stay curious and give your dog the space they need.

Because good training isn’t just about teaching your dog. It’s also about learning to understand them. 🤎

Does your dog get excited the moment you reach for the lead? 🐕

Pulling, jumping, barking or rushing towards the door can make the start of a walk feel stressful.

But here’s something worth remembering: the walk doesn’t begin when you step outside. It begins with the moments leading up to it.

🐾 Try this next time:

🤎 Slow down your routine.
🤎 Keep your own energy calm and your movements unhurried.
🤎 Give your dog a moment to settle before opening the door.
🤎 If excitement builds up, pause instead of rushing through the process.

The goal isn’t to expect your dog to be perfectly calm all the time. It’s to create small opportunities for them to practise a calmer state of mind.

And remember: every dog is different. Some need more time, space and support than others.

Small changes can make a difference. 🤎

How does your dog react when you pick up the lead? Tell me in the comments!
