"Mais Ar Para Viver" NEW PUBLIC ART by Mariana Malhão 🎈
📍 Estação de Monitorização da Qualidade do Ar, Avenida da Liberdade, Lisbon - Portugal

This new mural on Lisbon's Avenida da Liberdade by Portuguese artist was created as part of the Mais Ar Para Viver (More Air To Live) campaign, an initiative by Portugal dedicated to raising awareness of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and its impact on respiratory health and quality of life.

Through a circular narrative of balloon-like forms reminiscent of bronchi, the work reflects on breath as an essential yet often overlooked part of everyday life.

Installed on an Air Quality Monitoring Station, it transforms a piece of technical infrastructure into a space for reflection on the relationship between air quality, respiratory health, and the urban environment. Moving between images of vitality and fragility, the mural points towards ideas of care, regeneration, and hope.

The Artist's Proofs from Wasted Rita's latest edition “EXHAUSTED” are finally available.

In contrast to the Normal Edition, these Artist's Proofs are presented in a series of alternative colours and feature a unique flickering light effect – appearing as though they are slowly beginning to malfunction. In doing so, they extend the work's reflection on exhaustion in the contemporary age, transforming a familiar feeling into something highly visible and impossible to ignore.

Humorous, unsettling, and sharply observant, “EXHAUSTED” sits within Wasted Rita's ongoing practice of using language to expose the contradictions and pressures of life. These Artist's Proofs offer a new way of experiencing the work – and one of the artist's most recognisable themes.

At what point did exhaustion become a way of life?

Rendered in laser-cut acrylic and flex neon, ’s “EXHAUSTED” reflects on a present divided between obligation and algorithm, where tiredness no longer feels exceptional but woven into the fabric of everyday life. The constant pressure to be available, connected, productive.

In pointing towards everything exhaustion tends to erase – rest, intimacy, presence, boredom, time spent together and time alone – the work also gestures towards the possibility of another rhythm: one that allows space for pause, for care, and for reclaiming our time as our own.
