Opera Magna. 🇵🇱🇬🇧⬇️
W 5 minut da się wytłumaczyć by móc zagrać. Serio.
W grze budujemy katedrę Santa Maria del Fiore we Florencji, chociaż centrum gry to jednak 3 planszetki miast, które można nazwać dynamicznymi rynkami. Wysyłamy tu naszych kupców by handlowali na tych rynkach.
Mamy trzy miasta w każdy dwa obszary, górny i dolny.
To szybkie i dynamiczne euro, z prostymi i klarownymi zasadami.
Florencja ostatnio często pojawia sie w grach prawda?
🇬🇧 Opera Magna.
Opera for four voices, which means my first four player game of this euro, and it turned out to be a nice and fast title. The rulebook was a bit of a mystery at first. Would it be a mess like in The Breach, or… definitely the second option. The rulebook is well written, the rules are clear and actually quite simple.
You can explain the game in 5 minutes and start playing. Seriously. Maybe 10 minutes for complete beginners 🙂
Our game took 1:44, so it was a pretty quick game compared to those long sessions with heavy euros or area control games.
In the game we are building the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence, although the real heart of the game is actually the three city boards, which can be called dynamic markets. We send our merchants there to trade on these markets.
We have three cities, each with two areas, upper and lower. We can move our merchant to a space where we do not already have one, and we have three merchants in total.
By choosing the lower space in a city, we influence the rewards. We move the lower cards, remove the first one and add our own card at the end. By choosing the upper part of the city, we manipulate the costs instead.
The trade cards we have are multifunctional. Each card has an upper and lower part, but when we play a card, we have to choose the side according to the position of our merchant.
So we have quite a lot of control over the costs and rewards in the city markets. We can do it to benefit ourselves or to make things worse for our opponents. So yes, there is proper negative interaction here 🙂
Pushing out reward cards that could be useful to your opponent, or increasing costs so they just cannot afford them 🙂
The building cards we construct are also multifunctional. We decide which side of the board to play them on, and they give us either improvements to our abilities or opportunities to score points at the end of the game.
The wheelbarrows on the right side are also important, as they allow us to deliver materials to the cathedral, where some powerful scoring bonuses are waiting. But to do that, we first need to develop our resource tracks and the certificates connected to them.
Each player is a different specialist. We have a glassmaker, a mason, a carpenter and a blacksmith. Each one has their preferred resource. The asymmetry in the base game is not very strong, but apparently there is an expansion coming that increases it. I would definitely like to play with that expansion 🙂
9 rounds during which we draw 9 trade cards, do our actions and then the game is over 🙂
It is a fast and dynamic euro with simple and clear rules. There is quite a lot of negative interaction, but you can also just focus on your own game 😉
The winner scored 81 points. Well done Tomek! That must be quite a lot, because the scoring track goes up to 50 and there is a double sided 50+ token, so you can actually mark 100 points on it 🙂
The game has already been successfully funded on Gamefound. The campaign is still running, so if you are interested, I definitely recommend taking a closer look at this title.
Florence has been appearing in games quite often lately, hasn’t it?
