Why it happens
1. *Weak uterine tone* – low calcium, exhaustion, over-distension from twins/huge fetus
2. *Excessive traction* – pulling too hard on the fetus or placenta
3. *Straining* – prolonged labor, tenesmus, retained placenta
4. *Hormonal changes* – high relaxin + estrogen at calving/lambing make tissue
