Milk fever, or hypocalcemia, is a common metabolic disorder in dairy cows caused by low blood calcium, usually occurring within 72 hours post-calving. It results from a rapid demand for calcium for milk production that exceeds the cow's ability to mobilize it from bones or diet. Symptoms include staggering, weakness, cold ears, and inability to rise, with prompt intravenous calcium treatment usually resulting in a good prognosis.

Management of Caprine Twin Dystocia Taha Veterinary services

The complexity of parturition in small ruminants increases significantly with multiple fetuses. 🐐
Twin dystocia often presents a "logjam" effect where both kids attempt to engage the pelvic inlet simultaneously. Success in these cases depends on a systematic approach: Diagnosis → Anesthesia → Correction → Delivery.

Key Clinical Considerations:

Aseptic Preparation: Thoroughly clip and clean the perineal area to prevent ascending infections.

Caudal Epidural Anesthesia: Administering 2% Lignocaine HCl at the sacrococcygeal space is vital to suppress abdominal straining, allowing for safe manual manipulation.

Corrective Maneuvers: Prioritize the repulsion of one fetus to create space. Ensure the kid is in a longitudinal presentation and dorsosacral position before applying traction.

Post-Partum Protocol: Always check for a second (or third) kid and manage the dam with NSAIDs and Calcium therapy to prevent metabolic exhaustion.
Precision and patience save lives. Work with the dam, not against her. 🩺

Rabies in Cow
Rabies is a deadly viral disease that attacks the nervous system. It is usually spread through bites from infected animals such as dogs, bats, foxes, raccoons, or skunks.
Signs in Cow
Sudden behavior change
Aggression or unusual excitement
Excess salivation / drooling
Difficulty swallowing
Bellowing continuously
Staggering / incoordination
Paralysis
Sudden death
No Cure
There is no effective treatment once signs appear. Rabies is almost always fatal.
What To Do
Isolate the animal immediately
Do not touch saliva with bare hands
Call a veterinarian or animal health authority urgently
People exposed should seek medical care immediately
Prevention
Vaccinate cattle in risk areas
Control stray dogs/wildlife exposure
Report suspicious bites quickly

Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in cattle. It’s a highly contagious viral disease affecting cloven-hoofed animals like cows, goats, and sheep.

1. Mouth blisters (vesicles)
Painful fluid-filled blisters appear on the tongue, gums, and lips. These may rupture and form ulcers → animal stops eating.

2. Excessive salivation
Due to mouth pain, saliva dribbles continuously (rope-like drooling is common).

3. Hoof vesicles
Blisters form around the hoof (coronary band/interdigital space). When they burst, it becomes very painful.

4. Lameness
Because of foot lesions, the animal walks with difficulty or may refuse to move.

5. Udder lesions
Blisters can also appear on teats and udder → causes pain during milking and reduced milk production.
