On our 6th anniversary, we honor and thank the dedicated members of the Cassa de Perro Veterinary Team: our managers Nat and Lea; vets Paolo, Sitti, Cee, King, and Ding; and vet techs Dennis, Jade, Ariel, and Kenji. Salamat sa inyong walang sawang suporta!

We also proudly celebrate 5 years of service with Dennis, Jade, Paolo, and Ariel. Thank you for your commitment!

MEET THE PROFESSIONAL TAMBAY šŸ˜Ž

Not too long ago, Tambay was an unthrifty stray with dull coat and a severe case of mange. During the early days of our clinic, he would drop by every single day, looking for a meal, a safe place to rest, and perhaps a little kindness. Thatā€™s exactly how he earned his name: ā€œTambay.ā€

With weeks of treatment, vaccinations, regular meals, and after being castrated by our veterinary surgeons, Tambay has transformed into the pogi boy you see today. These days, youā€™ll usually find him lounging at our front desk, quietly welcoming every pet and their hoomans. Youā€™ll instantly recognize Tambay by his crooked tail, which reminds us of Pikachuā€™s iconic lightning bolt.
Heā€™s friendly and will even tolerate a few gentle pats on the back, though his facial expression might suggest otherwise. šŸ˜¹

Tambay is more than just our resident cat, heā€™s a reminder of how compassion can completely change a life. Resident pets like him also help create a warm, welcoming atmosphere in the clinic. For many anxious pets and their owners, seeing a calm, healthy, and friendly clinic cat can be reassuring, helping them feel more relaxed before their appointment.

So the next time you visit us, donā€™t forget to say hello to Tambay. He may act like heā€™s the one running the clinic and honestly, we just let him believe it. šŸ¤Ŗ

We are happy to share the success of our second Pound for Pound outreach at the Zamboanga City Pound in San Roque. With the support of our clients, friends, veterinarians, and staff, we donated ā‚±5,000 worth of dog and cat food to help the animals in their care.

Together with the OCVET team, we also provided vaccinations, deworming, tick and flea treatment, and feeding for the adoptable dogs and cats at the facility.

There are currently 37 dogs and 25 cats waiting for loving homes. We encourage everyone to adopt and give these animals a second chance at life.

If adoption is not possible, you can still help by donating pet food, treats, food and water bowls, or parasite prevention products. Cash and in-kind donations are also welcome, just send us a message, and we will ensure your support reaches the animals who need it most.

If you have adopted an Aspin or Puspin, we would love for you to share your story online and help others see what wonderful companions they are.

Again, daghang salamat, maraming salamat, gracias, magsukul, and thank you very much to everyone who has helped, no matter how big or small. Your kindness makes a real difference in the lives of these animals.

This kitten was brought to the clinic with a severe eye infection that could no longer be treated, and its right eye had to be removed to prevent further complications. At only one month old and weighing just 300 grams, the kitten successfully underwent surgery and recovered well.

Today, the kitten is healthy, active, and back at the clinic for vaccinations, now living comfortably with one eye. Maraming salamat po sa magaling at mapagpasensyang pet owner! šŸ©µ

UMBILICAL HERNIA (Luslos sa Pusod)

Alam nyo ba na ang simpleng umbilical hernia ay pwedeng magdulot ng seryosong komplikasyon sa alagang a*o at pusa?

This is a case of a 4-month-old kitten that had a fight, causing the hernia to rupture. Pagdating sa clinic, may amoy na at lumalabas na nana.

After surgical repair, 3 days of confinement, and week long medication at home, the kitten recovered well.

If you encounter the same situation, balutan agad ng malinis na gauze o tela ang exposed tissue and bring your pet immediately to the clinic. This can greatly improve surgical success and prevent life-threatening complications like peritonitis.

Euthanasia to healthy Peppa? šŸ•

Peppa came to the clinic with a bloated, pregnant-like belly caused by ascites secondary to Ehrlichia infection. Ito na nga, tick-borne diseases donā€™t always look the same. Kaya importante ang laboratory tests. Ang hirap kaya mag diagnose when you are working with a patient na hinde nagsasalita. šŸ˜

She also had very pale gums and growing weakness. On her first visit, we drained over 4L of abdominal fluid. A week later, it returned and continued to do so despite treatment. It was discouraging, and at one point, euthanasia was on the table.

But her owner stayed positive. With updated labs, consistent care and a revised treatment plan, Peppa slowly improved. After more than a month, sheā€™s now bright, active, and back to her ā€œsexy bellyā€ and happy self.

Successful outcomes often depend on owner cooperation. In the Philippines, ticks are present year-round kaya bigyan po natin ng regular tick and flea tablet ang ating mga a*o to avoid serious illness and costly treatment.

And lastly, Aspins, Askals, mongrels, whatever breed they are, every dog deserves protection and care.

POUND FOR POUNDā€™S FIRST OUTREACH SUPPORT

Daghang salamat, gracias, magsukul, maraming salamat po, our sincere thanks to the pet owners and donors who supported this small initiative for the adoptable pets at the City Pound.šŸ¤ŸšŸ½

We also thank our clinicā€™s vets and staff for coordinating the collection and procurement of donated materials, and the City Pound team and the entire Office of the City Veterinarian for their guidance in making this first vet drive possible. This is just the start of a long-term partnership.

Today, we vaccinated 7 puppies with DHPPi + L4 (8-in-1), dewormed 18 puppies, and donated antiparasitics, multivitamins, and 4 bags of dog and cat food for daily use.

We hope this encourages more ZamboangueƱos to recognize that all pets, regardless of breed, deserve proper care and attention. Small efforts, when combined, can create meaningful impact.

The City Veterinarian also invites responsible adopters to give City Pound animals a forever home and has committed to prioritizing these pets for future neutering programs. Aspins and Puspins thrive in the Philippines, letā€™s help them live the lives they deserve.

POST-GROOMING SKIN INFECTION

Hello, pet parents in ZC.

Grooming can be a rewarding experience for pets but it also carries risks if proper hygiene isnā€™t maintained. Many pets that come in for professional grooming already have underlying skin conditions caused by bacteria, yeast, fungi, or parasites like ticks, fleas, and mites. When healthy pets are groomed with improperly sanitized tools, infections can spread.

Weā€™ve treated several cases (including that in the photo) of fungal and mite infections where owners suspect exposure from grooming facilities.

To all groomers, linisin at isanitize ng tama ang mga gunting, razor, towels, and even tables. This is not meant to criticize, but to raise awareness and promote safer practices for the welfare of every pet.

Weā€™re excited to launch our Pound for Pound charity box, our small way of inviting fellow pet lovers to share blessings with the dogs and cats in the City Pound.

Not everyone can adopt, but even the smallest donation can help give these animals a second chance.

Many still overlook Aspins and Puspins in favor of ā€œpreferred breeds,ā€ leaving our native companions behind. Some are adopted, yet never truly cared for. They deserve more love, dignity, and a fair chance at a better life.

Through everyoneā€™s help, we aim to provide not just daily food, but also vaccines, vitamins, and preventive care that help them stay healthy and more adoptable while they wait for their future families.

If we each do a little, we can do a lot.
Letā€™s give them hope.
