🐾 March is Rabies Awareness Month 🐾

Rabies is a deadly disease that affects both animals and humans — but it is 100% preventable through vaccination.

At Paws 'n Herd Veterinary Services, we encourage all pet owners to protect their beloved companions and their families.

✔️ Vaccinate your dogs and cats regularly
✔️ Avoid contact with stray animals
✔️ Report animal bites immediately
✔️ Seek medical attention if bitten or scratched

Early signs of rabies in animals may include:
sudden behavior changes,
aggression,
excessive drooling,
and difficulty swallowing.

💉 Responsible pet ownership starts with vaccination.

📍 Visit Paws 'n Herd Veterinary Services this March and keep your pets protected.

⛔️Public Awareness⛔️

🦠 What is Nipah Virus?

Nipah virus is a serious disease that spreads from animals to humans. It is mainly carried by fruit bats 🦇, but it can also infect pigs 🐖 and other animals. People can get infected through contact with sick animals, contaminated food, or close contact with an infected person.

🌍 Where has it been found?

Outbreaks have happened in parts of Asia, including Bangladesh, India, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines.

🤒 Common symptoms

Symptoms usually appear 3–14 days after infection:
• 🤒 Fever
• 🤕 Headache
• 😷 Cough or sore throat
• 😮‍💨 Trouble breathing
• 🤢 Vomiting or dizziness

In severe cases, it can cause brain swelling 🧠, confusion 😵, seizures ⚡, or coma.

⚠️ How serious is it?

Nipah can be very dangerous. About 40%–75% of infected people may die, depending on the outbreak and medical care.

💊 Is there a cure or vaccine?
• ❌ No specific cure yet
• ❌ No approved vaccine
• 🏥 Treatment focuses on supportive hospital care

🔄 How it spreads

People can get Nipah from:
• 🦇 Contact with infected bats
• 🐖 Contact with infected pigs
• 🍎 Eating fruit contaminated by bats
• 🤝 Close contact with a sick person

🛡️ How to prevent it
• 🧼 Wash hands regularly
• 🍏 Wash fruits before eating
• 🚫 Avoid sick animals
• 😷 Avoid close contact with sick people

📰 Recent update

Recent cases were reported in India, but the risk of wider spread is currently low according to health authorities. Share this post to reach your loveones.☘️

🐾 BASIC ETIQUETTE BEFORE CALLING A VET

✅ Quick Text Before Calling an Emergency Vet:

Hi, this is [Your Name], owner of [Pet’s Name].
[Pet type + brief description of the issue]
I’m about to call — please be ready.

🔄 Example:

Hellow po Doc, this is Ms. Lilo, owner of Stitch.
Si Stitch po kasi nagsusuka at nagtatae.
Call po ako.

✅Most clinics close by evening unless they’re 24/7 emergency centers.
❌Avoid calling between 9 PM – 7 AM unless it’s a true emergency.

✅ What to do instead: Check their hours, text first if appropriate, or go directly to an emergency vet if urgent.

📌 Why This Matters:

Sending a short, calm text before calling helps your vet mentally and emotionally prepare for an emergency case. It gives them a moment to focus and shift gears — especially if they don’t recognize your number or are already handling another patient.

Not all unknown numbers can be answered right away.
A quick heads-up increases the chance they’ll be ready for your call.

🚨 If you don’t hear back in a minute or two, call immediately.
