🐾 EMERGENCY CESAREAN SECTION 🐾

When a dog is having difficulty giving birth, every minute matters.🚨

This patient was brought in for an emergency C-section after experiencing complications during labor. Our veterinary team acted quickly to safely deliver the puppies and provide the mother with the care she needed.

⚠️ If your pregnant dog has been in active labor for a prolonged period, is straining without producing a puppy, has abnormal discharge, or suddenly becomes weak or distressed, seek veterinary care immediately.

Difficult labor can become life-threatening for both the mother and puppies.

At Wizard Of Paws Veterinary Clinic, we are ready to provide emergency veterinary care when your furry best friend needs it most. 🐾❤️

AURAL HEMATOMA: WHY IS YOUR PET’S EAR SWOLLEN?

Have you noticed your dog or cat suddenly developing a soft, swollen, or “puffy” ear flap? It could be an aural hematoma.

🩸 What is an aural hematoma?
An aural hematoma happens when small blood vessels inside the ear flap rupture, causing blood to collect between the layers of the ear. The ear may become swollen, warm, and uncomfortable.

🤔What causes it?
Aural hematomas are often caused by repeated head shaking or scratching, which can occur because of:
• Ear infections
• Ear mites or other parasites
• Allergies
• Foreign bodies or irritation
• Trauma or excessive scratching

⚠️ Will it go away on its own?
Sometimes the swelling may eventually decrease, but simply waiting can result in thickening, scarring, and a permanent “cauliflower ear” appearance. More importantly, the underlying cause may continue to cause discomfort.

💉 How is it treated?
Treatment depends on the size and severity of the hematoma. Your veterinarian may recommend:
• Draining the accumulated blood
• Medication to control pain and inflammation
• Surgical correction for appropriate cases
• Treatment of the underlying ear infection, allergy, parasites, or other cause

🚫 Please don't try to puncture or drain the ear at home. This can introduce infection, cause further trauma, and the hematoma may simply refill.

❤️ The key is to treat BOTH the hematoma and the reason your pet is shaking or scratching its ears.

If you notice a suddenly swollen ear flap, have your pet checked by your trusted veterinarian as soon as possible.

September 1st.🍃

The rainy days are here, the year is quietly moving along, and somehow our pets are still convinced that every day is a good day for treats. 😂🐾

So here’s your little September reminder:

Check those ears.
Trim those nails.
Keep those vaccines updated.
And please don’t ignore that “small” change in behavior you’ve been noticing. 👀

Sometimes, the little things are the first signs that something isn’t quite right.

Here’s to a month of healthier pets, fewer emergencies, and absolutely no midnight Google diagnoses. 😌🩺

Happy September, pet parents.
