We cannot hide our disappointment with the Provincial Veterinary Office. Because someone reported Aspin Academy simply for asking for donations through our own social media page, someone was sent to check on us and verify our permits and registration.
We understand that government agencies have a mandate to conduct inspections when warranted. What we question is the apparent urgency and selectiveness of this action.
Since when did asking the public for donations to feed rescued animals automatically become grounds for inspection?
We are not the only animal shelter or animal facility in Quezon Province. Yet the attention given to a small, struggling non-profit organization that is openly asking the public for help raises a legitimate question about consistency and equal enforcement.
For the record, Aspin Academy is currently NOT actively rescuing animals. We have recently relocated and our resources are extremely limited. We are simply trying to provide food and basic care for the dogs already under our responsibility.
So, is it wrong for us to ask the public for help feeding them?
If the government is genuinely concerned that our dogs might go hungry, then perhaps government assistance or animal-welfare funds should also be extended to organizations carrying this burden, not merely inspections and questions about why we are asking the public for donations.
We welcome fair, lawful, and consistent regulation. What we cannot accept is selective scrutiny.
Animal welfare should not become a matter of who complained, who has influence, or who is easiest to inspect. If the rules apply to us, they should apply equally to everyone.
We will continue to advocate for the animals entrusted to us and we will continue to ask for help when we need it.
Because at the end of the day, our dogs still need to eat.
What we need is kindness and support, not inspection when someone just sent you screenshots of our post asking for donations.
