🐢Red-Eared Slider Turtle Setup Guide 🐢
Thinking of keeping a Red-Eared Slider (RES) turtle? Give them a home where they can truly thrive! Here's a complete basic setup for a healthy and happy turtle.
✅ Aquarium Tank
Choose the biggest tank you can afford. A good rule is at least 10 gallons of water for every inch of your turtle's shell. Bigger tanks mean cleaner water and more swimming space.
🪨 Hardscape & Basking Area
Create a sturdy basking platform using rocks, driftwood, or a turtle dock where your turtle can completely get out of the water. Add natural stones and wood to create a beautiful, natural-looking habitat while leaving plenty of open space for swimming.
💡Lighting
Proper lighting is essential!
• **UVB Light** – Helps your turtle produce Vitamin D3 and absorb calcium for healthy shell and bone growth.
• **Heat Lamp** – Keeps the basking area warm at around **32–35°C (90–95°F)** so your turtle can dry off and regulate its body temperature.
💧 Filtration
Red-Eared Sliders produce a lot of waste, so invest in a **powerful canister filter** rated for at least **2–3 times your tank size** to keep the water crystal clear.
🌡️ Water Temperature
Maintain water temperatures between **24–27°C (75–80°F)** for juveniles and **22–25°C (72–77°F)** for adults.
🥬 Diet
Feed a balanced diet of quality turtle pellets, leafy greens, and occasional protein treats. Variety is key to good health.
