Recently, the Angeles City Dog Pound made national news for doing something truly inspiring:
they showed that a no-kill, humane, and community-centered animal care system is possible in the Philippines.
Their LGU team is leading with compassion — catching, spaying, neutering, vaccinating, rehabilitating, and adopting out impounded dogs rather than euthanizing them. Because of this, they were praised as a regional model for humane animal care, and rightfully so. Their work is proof that when an LGU commits to humane strategies, lives are saved and communities become safer and healthier.
Here in Boracay and Aklan, dogs are still regularly caught and impounded — and too often, euthanized.
This cycle has continued for years, not because people don’t care, but because humane alternatives haven’t been prioritized or supported.
But we know there is a better way.
Mass euthanasia does not reduce the stray population long-term. The real, sustainable solution is the same one Angeles City is using:
✔️ Catch
✔️ Spay/Neuter
✔️ Rabies Vaccinate
✔️ Rehabilitate
✔️ Adopt or Return to Safe Sites
This approach saves lives, prevents cruelty, reduces roaming dogs, protects public health, and builds a kinder, more responsible community for everyone — locals, tourists, and animals alike.
At BAARC, this has always been our mission. We rescue. We rehabilitate. We adopt. And we work hard every day to fill the gaps where humane systems are missing.
We’re incredibly proud of Angeles City for showing what’s possible. And we hope that one day, our province can adopt the same compassionate, forward-thinking model — one that honors life, promotes safety, and treats every animal with dignity.
Until then, we’ll continue doing the work: rescues, spay/neutering, rehoming, community education, and collaboration with anyone willing to help.
Because every animal deserves a chance.
And every community deserves solutions rooted in compassion.
