πΎπ§οΈ WAGS & SNIFFS FLOOD SAFETY TIPS π§οΈπΎ
Keep your furry family members safe during floods! πΆπ±
π 1. Keep Pets Indoors
Bring your pets to a safe, dry, and elevated area before floodwaters rise.
π« 2. Never Let Pets Walk in Floodwater
Floodwater may contain bacteria, chemicals, sharp objects, and other hazards that can make your pet sick or injured.
π₯« 3. Prepare Food & Clean Water
Keep enough pet food and drinking water ready in case you need to stay indoors for several days.
π 4. Prepare a Pet Emergency Kit
Include food, water, medications, leash, collar/ID, towel, basic first-aid supplies, and vaccination records.
π¦Ί 5. Keep Identification on Your Pet
Make sure your pet has a collar with your updated contact information. A secure carrier is ideal for cats and small pets.
π§Ό 6. Clean & Dry After Exposure
If your pet gets wet, rinse off possible contaminants and dry them thoroughly. Pay special attention to their paws.
β οΈ 7. Watch for Signs of Illness
After flood exposure, monitor for vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, loss of appetite, or unusual behavior. Contact a veterinarian if you notice concerning symptoms.
π 8. Never Leave Them Behind
If evacuation becomes necessary, bring your pets with you. If it isnβt safe for you, it isnβt safe for them.
π A little preparation can save a life.
Stay dry. Stay safe. Keep those paws safe! πΎ
