5 Ways to Get Your Cat to Drink More Water 💧

Cats can be quite particular about their water. A few simple changes may encourage them to drink more:

1. Use wide, shallow bowls
Glass or ceramic bowls are often preferred, especially if their whiskers don’t touch the sides.

2. Offer more than one water station
Place bowls in quiet, easy-to-reach areas. Ideally, provide one bowl per cat, plus one extra.

3. Keep water away from food and litter trays
Many cats prefer their drinking water separate from where they eat and toilet.

4. Try a water fountain
Some cats are more interested in moving or running water.

5. Add more moisture through food
Wet food contains around 70–80% water. You can also try adding a little warm water to their food if they accept it.

Bonus tip: Keep water fresh and clean, and experiment with different bowls, locations and water sources. Every cat has its own preferences.

If your cat suddenly starts drinking much more or much less than usual, please speak to your veterinarian.
