According to breed histories compiled by the Philippine Canine Club, Inc. and breed advocates, the Philippine Forest Dog is believed to have lived alongside indigenous Aeta communities for centuries, possibly since pre-colonial times. The dogs reportedly served as hunting companions, helping Aeta hunters track and capture wild game in forest environments.

A Philippine forest dog often bonds strongly with people who respect their space and natural behavior. Over time, they may become protective, loyal companions who communicate more through body language and quiet companionship than exaggerated affection.

If recognition happened, the Philippine Forest Dog could become an important symbol of Philippine native canine heritage, similar to how:

Thai Ridgeback represents Thailand
Shiba Inu represents Japan
Basenji represents parts of Democratic Republic of the Congo

Right now, though, “Philippine Forest Dog” is not an officially recognized FCI breed. It is more of a developing or proposed native dog type/landrace discussion rather than a standardized breed.
