🐶 Sebaceous Adenoma Awareness 🩺

Bear was brought to us after his furparents noticed a lump on his head. Upon examination, the mass was diagnosed as a sebaceous adenoma.

A sebaceous adenoma is a benign (non-cancerous) skin tumor that arises from the sebaceous (oil) glands. It is commonly seen in middle-aged to older dogs and often appears as a small, raised, wart-like, or cauliflower-shaped growth. Although these tumors are usually not life-threatening, they can become irritated, bleed, become infected, or continue to enlarge if left untreated.

✅ When should you have a lump checked by your veterinarian?
• If it is growing in size
• If it bleeds or becomes ulcerated
• If your pet frequently scratches or rubs it
• If it changes in color or appearance
• If you notice any new lumps developing

Not every lump is harmless. While many skin masses are benign, some can be cancerous. Early veterinary examination and, when indicated, surgical removal and laboratory testing are the best ways to ensure an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
