This is why we strongly recommend proper markings—especially ear notching—to our cat kapon clients, whether their cats are indoor or outdoor. 🥹
Personally, it always brings me so much joy whenever I see a cat with an ear notch. It means one less cat contributing to stray overpopulation, and one more cat that is seen, protected, and cared for by a responsible furparent or a loving community. 🥰
Plus, it’s much easier to spot than ear tattoos! 🤣
To everyone who has had their pets neutered—whether owned pets or through TNVR—thank you for being responsible furparents and advocates for animal welfare. Let’s continue spreading awareness and encourage our communities and LGUs to support programs that keep both animals and people safe.🥰
Together, we can build a kinder, safer, and more compassionate community for all. 💙
Have you seen cats with ears like these? 👀🐱
You might notice some cats with a small notch or straight cut on the tip of their ear, or sometimes a small S tattoo. This is not an injury — it’s an important sign.
✨ What does it mean?
It means the cat has already been spayed or neutered.
🐾 Why ear-tipping or ear-notching is done?
Ear-tipping/notching is the internationally recognized mark for cats that have undergone spay/neuter, especially feral and outdoor cats.
✔️ Done under general anesthesia
✔️ Performed at the same time as spay/neuter surgery
✔️ Heals very quickly
✔️ Causes minimal pain and stress
❓ “Cutting part of a cat’s ear sounds cruel…”
We understand why it can look shocking at first. But in reality, it’s a good thing and a life-saving one.
💚 Ear-tipping protects cats by:
✔️Preventing repeat trapping and unnecessary surgeries
✔️Avoiding added stress and trauma
✔️Allowing rescuers, caretakers, and LGUs to instantly recognize that the cat is already kapon
✔️Helping reduce the chances of cats being caught by the pound
A small mark on the ear means a big difference in their lives.
👁️ Why visibility matters?
Unlike tattoos, which can fade over time or be hard to see, an ear tip is:
✔️ Visible even from afar
✔️ Easy to identify at a glance
✔️ Reliable for long-term monitoring of community cats
This is why many TNVR groups prefer ear-tipping.
🐱 A sign of care, not cruelty.
That tiny ear tip tells a powerful story:
✔️This cat was helped.
✔️This cat will no longer add to the cycle of suffering.
Let’s continue choosing compassion, education, and humane solutions.
