FOREIGN BODY OBSTRUCTION (FBO) IN DOG.
A patient was presented with frequent vomiting, decreased activity, and poor appetite. Foreign body ingestion was suspected, but the initial X-ray results appeared unremarkable. Radiographs are valuable in suspected foreign body ingestion, but when combined with ultrasonography, the diagnostic accuracy improves significantly. Ultrasound of the gastrointestinal tract revealed a moderately dilated duodenum and a hyperechoic mass with acoustic shadowing within the lumen—highly suggestive of a foreign body obstruction. During surgery, the diagnosis was validated: an avocado seed was found lodged in the duodenum.
This case highlights the importance of advanced imaging in uncovering hidden causes of gastrointestinal distress in pets. Early diagnosis can make a life-saving difference! If your pet is showing signs like persistent vomiting, loss of appetite, or lethargy, don’t wait—bring them in for a check-up.
