MAN WHO STRUCK AN ASPIN WITH WOODEN POLE GUILTY OF ANIMAL CRUELTY
At around 10:25 p.m. on October 16, 2025, the pained cries of an aspin named Georgie echoed through the neighborhood. He was found limping with his leg bleeding after being struck with a wooden pole by their neighbor, Louie Pumaren.
When Georgie’s furparent, Armando Manibale, confronted Pumaren about the incident, Pumaren claimed he had hit Georgie because he defecated in front of his house, blaming Mr. Manibale for failing to tie his own pet. However, CCTV footage disproved this claim, clearly showing that Pumaren struck Georgie without any provocation. But Pumaren showed no remorse for what he’d done.
Georgie was immediately rushed to the vet, where it was found that as a result of the attack, he sustained a wound and a hairline fracture on his left leg, constituting a serious injury.
In his affidavit, Mr. Manibale shared that prior to the incident, Georgie was a healthy, friendly, and happy dog. After the attack, however, he shared how Georgie was visibly traumatized: he lost his appetite and has been eating significantly less, he’s become fearful and wary of people, and now he’s very easily startled.
During the course of legal proceedings, Pumaren changed his plea from not guilty to guilty, and thus Louie Pumaren y Carcillar was found GUILTY beyond reasonable doubt of violating Section 6 of Republic Act No. 8485, also known as The Animal Welfare Act of 1998. He was sentenced to pay a fine of ₱5,000, with a warrant of arrest to be issued in case of nonpayment, and ₱7,000 in damages to Mr. Manibale.
We thank Georgie’s furparent for standing firm throughout the legal process to ensure justice was served for him. We stand with Georgie as he continues his physical and psychological recovery from the senseless cruelty that was inflicted upon him.
