Golden Retrievers have a pretty fascinating family tree! 👀

The breed we know and love today was developed by crossing Yellow Retrievers with the now-extinct Tweed Water Spaniel, along with other breeds including Irish Setters and Bloodhounds.

The Tweed Water Spaniel sadly disappeared in the late 19th century, but its legacy lives on through breeds like the Golden Retriever and Curly-Coated Retriever. 🥹🐶

So that lovable golden face? It has quite the story behind it! ✨🐾

Those beautiful eyes are the result of a gene that gives Ragdolls their signature color-point coat pattern. In fact, all purebred Ragdolls are born with blue eyes, making them one of the breed's most distinctive traits.

You may have heard the myth that all blue-eyed cats are deaf, but that's not true! While some solid white cats with blue eyes can have hearing impairments due to a different gene, the gene responsible for a Ragdoll's blue eyes does not affect their hearing.

So the next time you see a Ragdoll's mesmerizing blue gaze, remember—it's one of the many things that makes this gentle breed so special. 💙🐾
