Incessant rain brings about high humidity and traps moisture, causing fungal flare-ups on our pets.

Fungal dermatitis, caused by either dermatophytes or yeast, may be identified using a Wood's lamp. Fungal skin infections appear fluorescent under this lamp and often has a yellow-green glow.

The Wood's lamp test is quick and non-invasive but is not definitive on its own so a full skin work-up is recommended. This is available at our hospital at only 𝗣𝗵𝗽 𝟱𝟭𝟵.𝟭𝟮*!

Who knew playing Doktor Kwak Kwak from childhood games has made its way to literally untangling newborn kittens in our clinic? These newborn kittens only had minutes before trouble came. Their feet, tail, and placenta got all tangled up! Our amazing team (and our Filipino inner child) sprang into action to carefully untangle this intricate puzzle.

If you're asking how this can happen: When a queen gives birth, the placenta and umbilical cord are thick, slippery, and surprisingly tough. If the mother does not immediately bite through the cord or separate the placenta, it creates a serious mechanical risk for newborn kittens such as entanglement. As the newborn squirms, crawls, and nestles against its littermates, it easily loops their umbilical cord around its own limbs or the limbs of nearby kittens. As the placenta dries up, it shrinks and hardens, turning the soft cord into a tight ligature. If left tangled, the tight wrap cuts off blood flow to the limb. Without swift veterinary intervention to free the limb, this can lead to severe tissue death, nerve damage, or loss of the limb altogether.

𝑴𝒆𝒆𝒕 𝑷𝒖𝒔𝒂 𝒂𝒌𝒂 𝑩𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒐𝒏 🐈‍⬛🐾

Bandon was brought to our hospital for check-up last month but was sadly abandoned, hence his 𝘵𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘺 nickname. We have tried to reach out to the owner multiple times but the other end is silent.

At first, he got so depressed, quietly wondering why all the other patients went home but him. He was lethargic, wouldn’t eat, drink, or even urinate — we had to assist him through all this.

With gentle coaxing, slowly, he started warming up to us. Now, he has regained his appetite and his personality is shining through!

This chatty boy is still staying at our ward — eating as much as he wants and demanding attention from everyone (as he so deserves). Definitely the noisiest out of everyone. 😸

But while he is comfortable under our care, he deserves a loving home as much as any pet, not just a hospital cage.

The Department of Health (DOH) recently reported increased Leptospirosis cases in the country following heavy rains. Unfortunately, our dogs are equally at risk.

Canine Leptospirosis is a life-threatening infection transmitted through contact with contaminated water and soil or interaction with an infected animal. Symptoms may be observed as early as 2 days or up to 2 weeks after exposure.

Here are signs to watch out for:
• Vomiting or Diarrhea
• Inappetence or Lethargy
• Shivering
• Jaundice ❗️

What to do:
• Isolate the symptomatic pet.
• Always disinfect after handling them.
• 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙡𝙩 𝙮𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙫𝙚𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙣.

How to prevent:
• Eliminate exposure to rodents and their waste.
• Keep them indoors or strap on dog shoes and wipe their paws after a walk.
• 𝙑𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙚.

Leptospirosis is a 𝘇𝗼𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰 disease — furparents could also get infected from Lepto-positive dogs so it is crucial to confirm its diagnosis and take precautionary measures.

Accidents happen in a split second! Such is the case when a plastic floor grate turned into an unexpected trap for this pup. His humans rushed him to the vet and brought him straight to our team.

Our team moved quickly to safely free the paw, perform surgery, and stitch everything back together. Safe to say, he's now on the mend and back on his feet!
