🐾 Essential Tips for Dog Vaccinations: What Every Pet Parent Needs to Know! 🐶💉
Getting your furry friend vaccinated is the best way to keep them safe, but there are a few "Golden Rules" to follow before and after the appointment to ensure they stay healthy.
1️⃣ Before the Appointment (The Prep)
Health Check: Your dog must be 100% healthy. No sneezing, diarrhea, or fever. If they seem "off," reschedule!
New Pets: If you just rescued a pup, wait 7–10 days for them to settle into your home before vaccinating.
No Baths: Avoid bathing your dog for at least a week before the shot to keep their immune system strong.
2️⃣ At the Clinic (The Observation)
The 30-Minute Rule: Don't rush home! Stay at the vet for 30 minutes after the injection. This is the critical window for rare but serious allergic reactions (like swelling or breathing issues).
Speak Up: Tell your vet if your dog has had a reaction to vaccines in the past.
3️⃣ After the Shot (The Recovery)
The "No-Bath" Week: Do NOT bathe your dog for 7 days after vaccination. Their immunity is temporarily low, and a chill could make them sick.
Rest & Relax: Skip the dog park and heavy exercise for 48 hours. Let them nap and recover.
Watch the Diet: Some dogs lose their appetite slightly. Offer light, easily digestible food and plenty of fresh water.
4️⃣ Normal vs. Warning Signs
✅ Normal: Slight lethargy, mild loss of appetite, or a small bump at the injection site (usually fades in a few weeks).
🚨 Emergency (Call Vet!): Repeated vomiting, facial swelling (puffy eyes/muzzle), hives, or extreme difficulty breathing.
