JUST THE TIP OF THE NEEDLE WAS VISIBLE πͺ‘πΆ
An emergency case from our archives that reminds us how quickly an accident can become dangerous.
This patient was brought to the clinic after regular clinic hours with a needle and attached thread lodged deep behind the tongue.
Only a very small tip of the needle could be seen.
The patient had to be safely sedated, and a laryngoscope was used to properly visualize the area. Once the tip of the needle was located, it was carefully grasped with forceps and successfully removed.
π₯ In the video, the needle has already been removed. What you can still see is the attached thread being carefully pulled from the patient's mouth.
Radiographs were also performedβand while evaluating this emergency, we discovered another problem completely by chance: bladder stones.
The bladder stones were an incidental finding unrelated to the needle. Medical management was advised, together with follow-up monitoring.
This case is a reminder that what looks like a small foreign object can be hiding much deeper than expected.
If your pet swallowsβor you suspect they have swallowedβa needle, thread, bone, hook, toy, or other foreign material, do not pull on any visible string or thread. Seek veterinary attention promptly.
Sometimes, what we can see on the outside is only a very small part of the problem.
