💡Did you know? There’s a common myth that black dogs are more aggressive or less friendly than dogs of other colors. In reality, coat color does not determine a dog’s personality or temperament. Their behavior is shaped by genetics, socialization, environment, training, and individual experiences.

Black dogs may also sometimes be overlooked in shelters, but they can be just as loving, playful, goofy, and loyal as any other dog.

🦠 Reduce the Risk: Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) 🧬

Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) is a serious and potentially fatal disease in cats caused by a mutation of feline coronavirus (FCoV) within the cat’s body. FCoV is common among cats, especially in multi-cat environments, but only a small proportion of infected cats develop FIP. The disease can cause widespread inflammation and may affect multiple organs.

FIP is more likely to occur in multi-cat and breeding environments, while it is less common in well-managed single-cat households. Although completely eliminating FCoV exposure can be difficult, good husbandry, hygiene, and stress management can help reduce the risk.

📝Keep cat groups small — ideally fewer than 5 cats
📝Clean litter trays daily — one per cat, plus one extra
📝Keep litter trays away from food and water
📝Isolate queens before and after giving birth
📝Avoid having multiple litters at the same time
📝Minimize stress and maintain good hygiene

🔬 What is the Rivalta test?
The Rivalta test is a simple screening test performed on body fluid that can help differentiate an exudate from a transudate. A positive result can support suspicion of FIP, especially when combined with the cat’s clinical signs and other diagnostic findings. However, a positive Rivalta test does not confirm FIP on its own.

A second chance for one brave little fighter. 🐱💙

A diaphragmatic hernia is more than just an abnormal finding on an X-ray. When the diaphragm is torn, abdominal organs can move into the chest cavity, taking up space needed for the lungs to expand and potentially leading to life-threatening breathing difficulties.

Our feline patient underwent surgical repair of the diaphragmatic hernia, with careful monitoring throughout the procedure and recovery.

In the radiographs, you can see the difference before and after the repair. Cases like this require timely intervention, advanced imaging, careful anesthesia, and a skilled surgical and veterinary team working together to give our patients their best chance.

We’re so grateful to see this brave kitty recovering and back to being their adorable self. ❤️
