🦞😣A.R.C. SIGNS OF STRESS😣🦞
-Behavioral Signs-
🔴Constant Hiding: Refusing to leave burrows or caves, which indicates fear or a lack of secure shelter.Loss of Appetite: Ignoring standard sinking pellets or treats.
🔴Erratic Movements: Darting rapidly, swimming upside down, or making frequent, desperate attempts to climb out of the tank.
🔴Lethargy: Sluggish behavior or lying immobile on their side, outside of normal molting.
-Physical Signs-
🔴Discoloration: The shell losing its vibrant hues and turning dull.
🔴Failed Molting: Trouble completely shedding their exoskeleton, often resulting in death.
🔴Missing Appendages: Dropping claws or legs (autotomy) due to fright or aggressive tankmates.
🔴Shell Disease: Appearance of unusual dark spots, blotches, or lesions on the body.
-Common Causes & Fixes-
🔴Water Quality: Poor parameters (high ammonia/nitrite, temperature spikes, or wrong pH) are top triggers. Red Claw crayfish thrive in water between 23°C to 31°C and a pH of 6.5 to 8.0. Use resources like the Aquarium Store Depot Water Testing Guide to monitor and maintain clean conditions.
🔴Lack of Cover: Stress often stems from an insecure tank. Provide numerous caves, PVC pipes, or terracotta pots so they have a safe refuge, especially when molting.
🔴Overcrowding/Aggression: Red Claws are territorial and will attack each other if there is not enough space. They require adequate bottom area and should not be mixed with other aggressive species.
