Korean Air has released an official statement addressing the untimely demise of psychiatric service dog Bubble during a three-hour flight from Guangzhou to Incheon.

"We offer our deepest condolences and sympathy to the customer who lost their beloved pet dog. When flight KE868, which departed from Guangzhou, arrived in Incheon and the door was opened, unfortunately, the pet dog was found already deceased inside the cage," read the statement released on September 7.

The airline added that other pets aboard the same flight did not encounter health problems. They also assured passengers that the in-cabin environment necessary for animal transport was maintained without issue.

But Jingwen Liang, Bubble’s owner, remains unsatisfied with the statement, arguing it still does not fully explain what happened to Bubble.

According to Liang’s viral social media post on September 4, the Korean Air transfer counter in Incheon instructed her to wait for Bubble at the lounge. Two hours later, she was allegedly told Bubble was “not breathing.”

Liang has since asked for CCTV footage, transport and handover records, and even medical and veterinary records but is yet to receive a response.

As of writing, Liang has formally filed a complaint and compensation claim with Korean Air.
