This 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐕𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐞, let’s talk about something we endure every day.
Today, we want to share something many of us silently endure: the bad reviews, the criticisms, and the frustrations directed at us.
Doing our best to diagnose those who can’t speak, facing the death of a patient, celebrating recovery in the other room — the best thing we can give to anyone is our compassion.
But compassion doesn’t just go one way.
Behind every consultation, surgery, emergency call, and late-night message is a veterinarian who is trying their best with the information and resources they have. We carry the emotional weight of every case, the pressure of every decision, and the responsibility to speak for animals who cannot speak for themselves.
Yet, beyond the medical challenges, one of the hardest things vets face today is the lack of understanding and kindness from the very people we are trying to help.
Online attacks, harsh words, unrealistic expectations, and personal insults — these are wounds that do not heal with medicine.
We are not perfect. We admit our lapses.
But every single day, we show up with the same goal — to help, to heal, and to give your pets the best care we can with the knowledge, tools, and information we have at that moment.
Vets are humans before we are professionals.
We learn. We improve. We carry every mistake heavily, and every success humbly. What most people don’t see is how much these moments shape us into better veterinarians for the next pet who walks through our doors.
Constructive feedback helps us improve.
Cruelty destroys the very people who are caring for your pets.
So today, on this day dedicated to veterinarians worldwide, I hope we can all take a moment to recognize:
💛 Vets are humans.
💛 Vet staff are humans.
💛 We feel deeply — the wins and the losses.
💛 And we show up every day because we love your animals like our own.
To all my fellow vets and clinic staff: your work matters, your compassion matters, and your dedication saves lives every single day.
Let’s continue to uplift one another, advocate for kindness, and remind the world that behind every paw we heal is a heart that chooses to keep going.
Happy International Day of Veterinary Medicine.
Be kind to your vets. Your pets need us — and we need your understanding too.
