FLOOD SEASON PET SAFETY TIPS π§οΈπΆπ±
With the ongoing flooding in our area, our pets need extra protection too. Here are a few reminders for pet owners:
1. Keep pets away from floodwater.
Floodwater may contain bacteria, parasites, chemicals, and other contaminants that can cause illness.
2. Avoid letting your pets drink or swim in floodwater.
Contaminated water may increase the risk of infections, including leptospirosis.
3. Clean and dry their paws after exposure. Wash off mud and floodwater, especially between the toes and paw pads.
4. Keep them safe and dry.
Make sure they have access to a clean, elevated, and comfortable area away from the flood.
5. Prepare their essentials.
Keep enough food, clean drinking water, maintenance medications, and important veterinary records in case evacuation becomes necessary.
6. Monitor for signs of illness.
Vomiting, diarrhea, weakness, loss of appetite, fever, difficulty breathing, or unusual behavior should not be ignored.
Most importantly, please prioritize your safety and your pets' safety during evacuation.
