A lot of pet owners ask about raw food diet. I always do not recomend it due to risk of diseases.

A recent article in the Vet Record highlighted that a untravelled dog had been diagnosed with the zoonotic parasite Linguatula Serrata, known as tongue worm.

The history suggested that the infection came from the ingestion of raw food.

The letter states that reviews of raw meat based diets have identified Salmonella species, Enterobacteriaceae, Listeria, Escherichia coli, Toxoplasma and Brucella sius as pathogens of concern. Now, having first hand experience of this parasite the authors want to add L serrata as a zoonosis and as a differential in dogs fed raw food with respiratory disease.
