In light of the post circulating on Facebook and TikTok, we are sharing our official statement to provide factual context and clarification of key details.

Patient: 12-year-old female Pomeranian

Presented: around 3:40-3:45 AM with lethargy, inappetence (3 days), vomiting (2 days)

Vet examination: around 3:50 AM; history taken and physical exam performed

History: Previously diagnosed with gastroenteritis at another clinic

Blood tests: Complete blood count and chemistry recommended but DECLINED despite explanation of associated risks (waiver signed)

Care at our facility: IV fluids started around 4:00 - 4:05 AM, oxygen, medications

Condition: Critical; differential diagnoses included kidney/liver failure, pancreatitis, gastroenteritis

Contrary to the post on social media suggesting a lack of urgency, documented timelines show that the the case was managed promptly and with due urgency.

What: a highly contagious and fatal viral infection that affects the gastrointestinal system
Who are affected: Young, unvaccinated dogs are highly susceptible; all ages of dogs
Transmission: direct contact to contaminated f***s and surfaces.

Machi just graduated from vaccine!

He completed his vaccination series [(5in1, 6in1, 8in1), antirabies, kennel cough] and is now protected against distemper, parvovirus, leptospirosis, rabies, kennel cough, hepatitis, and parainfluenza.

A typical dog vaccination schedule involves initial puppy vaccinations starting around 6 weeks of age, followed by booster shots every 2-4 week until they reach 16-20 weeks of age. Puppies typically receive a series of core vaccinations (like Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus) and may also receive non-core vaccines (like Leptospirosis, Kennel cough) based on their lifestyle and risk factors. Adult dogs typically receive boosters of core vaccines annually.

🥛🍼Do you have a small mama dog who's nursing many baby dogs?

Take note of these signs because they may be at risk of lactational hypocalcemia:
-Heavy panting, drooling
-Muscle tremors, stiff movements
-Restlessness, pacing, and whining
-Difficulty standing and incoordination
-and in worse cases, seizures.

Lactational hypocalcemia or eclampsia, is a serious condition in dogs that occurs when a nursing mother's blood calcium levels drop significantly due to the demands of milk production. Small breeds that are nursing large amount of litter are commonly affected. Undernourished and with hormonal problem mothers are also at risk.
