To the animal advocates, rescuers, veterinarians, concerned citizens, government authorities, law-enforcement personnel, barangay officials, organizations, volunteers, and everyone on social media who spoke up — thank you for refusing to stay silent.
You are heroes, an inspiration, and a wonderful example to all of us that every animal deserves kindness, compassion, respect, protection, and justice — regardless of breed, color, age, size, or condition.
Protecting animals means much more than rescuing them after something terrible happens. We must also prevent suffering before it begins.
🐾 SPAY & NEUTER — KAPON / LIGATE to help prevent unwanted litters and reduce the number of homeless and abandoned cats and dogs.
💉 VACCINATE AGAINST RABIES and provide appropriate veterinary care, treatment, and preventive healthcare. The Philippines’ Anti-Rabies Act, RA 9482, establishes responsible pet ownership and rabies-control measures.
🏠 PROVIDE PROPER CARE — nutritious food, clean water, safe and sanitary shelter, exercise, affection, supervision, and medical attention when animals are sick or injured.
❤️ NEVER ABANDON, NEGLECT, ABUSE, OR MALTREAT ANIMALS. Philippine law specifically prohibits cruelty, maltreatment, inadequate care and shelter, and abandonment. The Animal Welfare Act, RA 8485 as amended by RA 10631, protects the physical and psychological welfare of animals.
🐕 PRACTICE RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP. Keep animals safe and properly supervised. Do not allow them to be abandoned or left in dangerous situations.
🏡 ADOPT RESPONSIBLY AND GIVE THEM A FOREVER HOME. Caring for an animal is a lifelong commitment, not something to be discarded when caring for them becomes difficult.
🚨 REPORT ANIMAL CRUELTY AND NEGLECT. When we witness abuse, neglect, abandonment, or animals being kept in unsafe conditions, we should speak up and report it through the proper authorities rather than remaining silent.
⚖️ ENFORCE ANIMAL-WELFARE LAWS AND HOLD VIOLATORS ACCOUNTABLE THROUGH DUE PROCESS. Philippine law provides penalties for animal cruelty, maltreatment, neglect, and abandonment.
🏥 ANIMAL POUNDS, SHELTERS, RESCUE FACILITIES, AND PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANIMALS MUST PROVIDE HUMANE CARE. Animals in their custody still deserve adequate food, water, shelter, sanitation, medical attention, and protection from unnecessary suffering. Philippine animal-welfare law specifically addresses standards of accommodation, feeding, general care, disease prevention and treatment, and freedom from unnecessary fear, distress, and pain.
🤝 COMMUNITIES MUST WORK TOGETHER. Pet owners, rescuers, veterinarians, shelters, barangays, local governments, organizations, volunteers, schools, and ordinary citizens all have a role in creating safer communities for animals.
PLEASE NEVER LOOK AWAY WHEN AN ANIMAL IS SUFFERING.
